HOMMES BREAKOUT Roles
This season, we find ourselves considering the twin concepts of comfort zones and risk taking. Where within those borders does happiness lie? How do these seemingly diametrically opposed ideas intersect within us, and when do we know what we really need to feel happy and safe, yet also energized and fulfilled?
In this issue of L’OFFICIEL Hommes, we feature designers, actors, and a host of creatives who are considering the wealth of choices along this path. Finding happiness and equilibrium is something our cover star, Regé-jean Page, has aimed for after his breakout role in Bridgerton caused a meteoric rise to stardom. Rather than sticking with the same sort of period-drama roles that made him famous, Page relishes the opportunity to explore new worlds through choosing a wide variety of projects within vastly different genres. Musician and producer Travis Barker, on the other hand, has found another way to stay grounded: By literally taking to the skies. After over a decade of avoiding flying after being a passenger in a devastating plane crash, the blink-182 drummer learned to face his fear. “I don’t think I would have done it if I wasn’t in love, and feeling invincible,” he says.
This year’s fall collections provide both a sense of comfort and novelty with a keen appreciation of craft. Menswear takes a nod from couture, displaying exciting new shapes and dramatic flourishes, while accessories exist within their own elemental space, at once playful and luxe.
While some may seek the solace of the known, a number of fashion creatives are challenging themselves to explore. Take the emerging crop of new menswear labels hailing from Paris—buzzy brands like Bluemarble and Egonlab—who found their footing in the midst of the pandemic, and are now spreading their wings with confidence.
Ultimately, how and where you find your sense of balance is entirely up to you, and may even change day to day. Let’s forge ahead on this journey of self-discovery, together.
