INSTITUTO BILINGÜE GUADALUPANO
María Inés Alcaraz dirige el instituto bilingüe Guadalupano desde hace 13 años. El mismo se emplaza 2510 E ADMIRAL BLVD de TULSA, y forma a los niños desde los 3 años al pre-escolar de manera íntegramente bilingüe.
Maria Ines es Argentina, originaria de la ciudad de Bahía Blanca y trabaja en la escuela desde hace casi 20 años. “Nuestro instituto es conocido como La Escuelita porque tiene la calidez de un hogar”, dice la directora con orgullo. En esta escuela los niños cuentan con clases personalizadas de no más de 12 alumnos en donde aprenden el currículum oficial con un formación integral en valores e idiomas.“Básicamente promovemos la conversación en español y las actividades en ingles para preparar a los niños para su ingreso en la escuela primaria”. A nivel académico este jardín de infantes no difiere de otros, sin embargo su enfoque religioso y humano lo caracteriza. “La religión se introduce a partir del amor y los valores, esto es la base de todo. Son valores espirituales y morales, decir la verdad, ser compasivos, ser generosos, solucionar los conflictos por medio del dialogo”.
Inés es maestra de corazón y de profesión, estudió en su país natal donde aprendió lo que era enseñar en medio de la pobreza. Cuando llegó al instituto estaba rebosante pues es un lugar que tiene todos los recursos necesarios para la enseñanza y además es accesible para los padres. “Enfrentamos en la escuela una economía de guerra, las maestras cuidamos muchísimo el material, aquí no se desperdicia nada”.
El instituto bilingüe no enseña sólo a niños hispanos, también hay americanos y todos aprenden de la misma manera. “No hay ninguna diferencia entre los niños hispanos y los americanos, son espontáneos, no tienen diferencias a parte del idioma. Hay niños que vienen a aprender español, otros que vienen aprender ingles”, explicó la directora. “Los niños cuando desean comunicarse se relacionan y juegan aún no hablando el mismo idioma. El idioma no implica un límite entre su comunicación. El juego es lo que hace que se comuniquen, es algo precioso de ver”, agregó María Inés.
La escuela capacita a los niños para entrar a primer grado, “es también nuestro objetivo que cundo el niño ingresa en la escuela elementaría ,que es completamente distinta - clases mas numerosas, mas exigencia- nosotros los preparamos par ese cambio y las rutinas que ellos encuentran en las escuelas”, explicó la directora sobre el jardín. “En el kínder le damos tarea para que aprendan que es una rutina que después llevan al primer grado”, aseguró.
En la escuelita los niños aprenden con amor a convertirse en personitas honestas, bilingües y más que listas para ingresar en el mundo elemental.
“La educación es el arma mas importante además del amor que tenemos para darle a los niños y eso es lo que combinamos en esta escuela”, concluyó María Inés.

María Inés Alcaraz has been running the Instituto Bilingue Guadalupano for 13 years now. This pre-school is located at 2510 E Admiral Blvd in Tulsa, and has the mission of forming children from pre-kinder to preschool with a bilingual approach.
Maria Ines comes from Argentina. She was born in Bahia Blanca and has been working at the school for the last 20 years. “We call it La Escuelita, because it is a place as cozy as home,” she explained with a sense of inner pride.
In this school children enjoy classes of no more than 12 students and learn the official study program with a spice, bilingual skills, values and religion.
“Basically we try to encourage the conversation in Spanish and do the rest of the activities in English so that the children are ready for the first grade,” explained Maria Ines.
“We try to introduce religion through love and values, because they are the base of everything. We teach our students to be honest, to be generous, to have pity on the rest and to solve conflicts through the use of words,” the principal said.
Ines is a professional teacher who teaches from the heart. She studied back in Argentina, were she learned what it was to teach in the amidst poverty and today she is proud of working at the institute where she can find the resources she needs while working in a school everyone can afford.
Nevertheless, she confesses, “In this school we implement a war economy, teachers are very careful with the use of the materials and we never waste anything.”
The institute is open to all children regardless of their cultural background.
“There are no differences between the Hispanic and the Anglo kids, leaving the language aside. I have kids here that come to learn Spanish and others that are trying to learn English,” said Ines. “When children communicate they do it by playing, regardless of the language they speak. Language is not a limit for them, it is what makes them bond, something so precious to see.”
La Escuelita works hard to get its children ready for first grade.
“It is our goal to teach the kid the skills he needs for elementary school. There classes have more children, and there are a lot of changes and the levels of exigency are more intense, so we try to teach them the basic routines they will have to get used to later on,” said Maria Ines.
“In kindergarden we start giving them home-work, so that they can create a habit for the rest of their lives,” she explained.
La Escuelita is a place in which through love and dedication Tulsa kids learn how to become responsible children ready for the challenges of elemental school.
“Education and love are the most important tools we need to give our children, and that is what we combine in this school,” concluded Maria Ines. (La Semana)
