Community Health Connection breaks ground on new East Tulsa clinic
La Conexión Médica (CHC) comenzó las obras en la clínica que se emplazará adyacente a la escuela elementaría Ellen Ochoa ubicada al 12000 Este de la calle 31. La ciudad y los líderes de la comunidad, incluyendo el alcalde de Tulsa, G.T. Bynum estuvieron en el lugar celebrando un proyecto que promete traer grandes mejoras a los residentes del Este de Tulsa.
Actualmente CHC opera dos clínicas una en la calle 3 y Lewis y otra en la calle 21 y Mingo. Esta nueva clínica podrá dar solución a las necesidades de una población que actualmente carece de centros médicos en el Este de Tulsa y ofrecer una gran variedad de servicios como cuidado oftalmológico, que antes la clínica no podía ofrecer. “Actualmente no ofrecemos servicios dentales y farmacéuticos en la locación de la 21 y Mingo, pero la nueva clínica comprenderá todos esos nuevos servicios”, dijo el CEO de la clínica Jim McCarthy. “Cuando abra la nueva clínica podremos ofrecer servicios completos en ambas clínicas, brindando más servicios par los pacientes”.
El proyecto se hizo posible gracias al voto de los tulsanos que aprobaran su financiación por medio de Vision Tulsa, que invirtió $9,975,000 de los fondos de los contribuyentes para construir el edificio y renovar la escuela elementaría Ellen Ochoa. Esta clínica escuela será un lugar para toda la comunidad, con acceso para los estudiantes, sus familias y todo el barrio.
La nueva clínica tardará un año en completarse y será el doble de tamaño que la de la calle 21 y Mingo, y se abrirá en invierno del 2019.
“Con la clínica y la escuela en el mismo lugar, la CHC se integrará completamente a la comunidad del Este de Tulsa”, agregó McCarthy. “Además, CHC y sus pacientes tendrán acceso a los espacios de la escuela Ochoa para clases de nutrición, aeróbicas y clases de cocina para el bienestar de toda la comunidad”.
McCarthy dijo que la expansión representa la dedicación de CHC para con la comunidad de Tulsa ofreciendo un ambiente bilingüe y culturalmente sensible. “En La Conexión Médica estamos comprometidos con la salud médica, dental y psicológica de todos los residentes de la ciudad y especialmente los del Noroeste de Oklahoma con un foco especial en la comunidad latina”, dijo McCarthy.

Community Health Connection (CHC) broke ground last Friday on its newest clinic to be located adjacent to Ellen Ochoa Elementary School at 12000 East 31st Street. City and community leaders, including Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum, were on hand to help celebrate a project that promises to bring major improvements in the scope of health services available to the residents of East Tulsa.
CHC currently operates two Tulsa clinics, one at 3rd and Lewis and another at 21st and Mingo. The new clinic will be able to better meet the needs of those for whom a location in East Tulsa is more convenient, as well as offering vision care, which has not previously been avail- able to CHC clients.
“Currently, we don’t offer dental or pharmacy services at our 21st & Mingo location but with the new clinic we will be able to offer those services,” CHC’s Chief Executive Officer, Jim McCarthy, explained. “When the new clinic opens, all of our services will be available at both of our locations, making it more convenient for patients.”
This project is the result of the citizens of Tulsa voting to approve Vision Tulsa and allot $9,975,000 in taxpayer funds to build the new facility. CHC is working with Union Public Schools (UPS) to build the facility on the campus of Union’s new Ellen Ochoa Elementary school. The new clinic will be a true school and community-based facility with easy access for students, their families, and the surrounding community.
The new facility, which is expected to take a year to complete, will be double the capacity of CHC’s 21st and Mingo location. The tentative opening date of the new facility is Winter of 2019.
“With both the clinic and the school on the same campus, CHC will be fully integrated into the East Tulsa Community,” McCarthy added. “In addition, CHC and its patients will have access to spaces within the Ellen Ochoa school for classes, including nutrition, aerobics and cooking to further expand the educational and well-being of the community.”
McCarthy said the new facility represents CHC’s ongoing dedication to serving the needs of its clients in a bilingual and culturally sensitive environment.
“At Community Health Connection we are committed to serving the medical, dental, behavioral health and pharmacy needs of all of the residents of Northeast Oklahoma with a special focus on the growing Hispanic/Latino community,” McCarthy said.
