Winter Wonderland at Gathering Place
Gathering Place abrió hace menos de tres meses al público y ya se ha convertido en el lugar favorito de los tulsanos y una gran atracción para turistas de todo el país, pero ahora el parque apuesta a más y se prepara para la navidad con su nuevo parque temático Winter Wonderland, que planea ser un nuevo clásico de la temporada festiva.
La arquitectura del parque y sus áreas de juego tomarán nuevos colores después del anochecer y las luces de navidad nos invitarán a adentrarnos en un mundo de elfos, juglares, acróbatas y muchos otros artistas mágicos que no encontrarás en otro lugar como una tortuga, un hurón azul y una ardilla a la que los visitantes deberán ponerle nombre. El rey y la reina de navidad estarán esperando a los niños para tomarse fotos mientras los villancicos suenan en los lugares más recónditos del parque y la música en vivo le pone espíritu a la navidad.
Para muchos visitantes el camino navideño empieza en el Williams Lodge, al que el director ejecutivo del parque, Tony Moore se refiere como el “living Room de Tulsa”. Allí las caras felices se ven en todas las cámaras que disparan fotos al impresionante árbol de navidad que se extiende hasta lo más alto del lodge y los pequeñines le piden deseos a la señora y el señor Claus delante de un cálido hogar a leña.
Al dejar el lodge se puede visitar los distintos stands de productos navideños y creaciones de artesanos locales, también hay un panadero que le deja a los visitantes decorar sus propias galletas de navidad. La semana visitó Winter Wonderland el pasado fin de semana y pudo ver la felicidad en todos los transeúntes. “He estado en parques en todo el país y esta es una experiencia que no he tenido jamás”, dijo un papá que transitaba la maravilla navideña. “Lo que logró hacer Gathering Place es increíble, especialmente considerando que este es su primer año. Y encima, es gratis”.
Los músicos y cantantes de villancicos cambian cada día, así que no dejes de visitar Winter Wonderland más de una vez para construir las memorias de esta navidad junto a tus seres queridos.
Winter Wonderland se extiende hasta el 30 de diciembre con actividades especiales cada jueves, viernes y sábado de la temporada navideña. (La Semana)

In the less than three months since opening to the public, Gathering Place is already a favorite spot for thousands of local residents and a destination for visitors from across the country, and now the groundbreaking new park is hoping to become a Tulsa holiday tradition as well. Last weekend the park unveiled a new seasonal experience, Winter Wonderland at Gathering Place.
The unique architecture of the park’s features and play areas takes on a new and magical quality after dark, when holiday lights transport visitors into a captivating world of playful and mischievous elves, hula hoop performers, jugglers, and special characters you won’t find anywhere else like Tulsa the Turtle, Blue the Heron, and a squirrel whose moniker is being chosen in a naming contest. A sparklingly illuminated King and Queen of Christmas appear on stilts, greeting children and spreading the holiday spirit while Dickensian carolers and a changing lineup of singers and musicians fill the park with the sounds of the season.
For many visitors, the journey into Winter Wonderland begins in Williams Lodge, which Executive Park Director Tony Moore refers to as “Tulsa’s living room.” There happy faces can be seen smiling for the camera in front of a giant Christmas tree that extends to the top of the Lodge’s high vaulted ceiling while the little ones whisper their deepest desires to Santa and Mrs. Claus in front of a warming fire.
Leaving the Lodge, park-goers have the opportunity to do a bit of holiday shopping at numerous stalls offering creative and delicious wares offered by local merchants. There is even a vendor allowing visitors to decorate their own holiday cookies.
La Semana visited Winter Wonderland on opening weekend, and the response from visitors was universally positive.
“I’ve been to parks all over the country, and this is truly a wonderful experience unlike anything I’ve seen before,” one father observed. “What Gathering Place has put together here is amazing, especially considering this is their first year. And to top it all off, it’s free!”
Because musicians and performers change from day to day, each visit to Winter Wonderland will provide a new and unique opportunity to make special memories with family members and loved ones.
Winter Wonderland runs through December 30, with programming every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and during all of Christmas week. (La Semana)
