Bud Walton Arena marked for life with the name: Nolan Richardson

Thousands of fans received the Living Legend in what once was his nest

Nolan Richardson gave hundreds of victories to the Arkansas fans. On Sunday, October 20, the athletic director for the University of Arkansas Hunter Yurachek went down in history after the official ceremony finally when Bud Walton Arena basketball court was Nolan Richardson Court.

Bud Walton Arena welcomed the controvers­ial coach Nolan Richardson who was accompanie­d by players who play for him. Some of them were members of the team that won the only national championsh­ip that Arkansas has.

One of the emotional moments was at the time that former coach Mike Anderson entered the court, Anderson was fired for the bad results obtained during his time at Arkansas. Anderson was player and assistant of Nolan Richardson in the golden age of Arkansas basketball.

Former president of the United States and former governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton sent a pre-recorded message congratula­ting Nolan not only for recognitio­n, but for what the African American means to society.

At a press conference Nolan Richardson expressed how her daughter would have felt if she was still alive for this recognitio­n “She loved basketball more than anything else in the world, she always wanted me to win every game, and when we didn’t win games, she to cry, but I don't think she got to cry much because we won a lot of games, and for me, I think it brings me a lot of happiness in my heart, for my wife, my grandmothe­r, my grandchild­ren, and that's why for me it's a great happiness. ”Nolan Richardson concluded.

After the ceremony, Arkansas played its first game against Little Rock University and won 79-64.

Up next for Arkansas is Southwest Oklahoma State on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 P.M. inside Bud Walton Arena.
