Alcalde busca aportes públicos para contratar nuevo jefe de policía
Mayor seeks public input into hiring new police chief
TULSA, OK - El alcalde G.T. Bynum anunció la semana pasada que él y la red de prevención del delito realizarán tres ayuntamientos en enero centrados en recibir comentarios del público como parte de la búsqueda del nuevo Jefe del Departamento de Policía de Tulsa.
"Desde que el Jefe Jordan anunció su retiro pendiente, he escuchado de muchos de mis compañeros tulsanos con valiosos pensamientos y consejos", dijo Bynum. "Contratar al próximo jefe de policía será una de las cosas más importantes que haré durante mi tiempo como alcalde, y quiero asegurarme de que cualquier tulsano con ideas para compartir tenga la capacidad de hacerlo".
Los foros públicos se producen después de que el actual jefe de policía Chuck Jordan anunciara su retiro para 2020. El foro está destinado a escuchar los comentarios del público sobre cómo les gustaría que fuera la búsqueda y qué les gustaría ver en el próximo jefe de policía de Tulsa.

Crime Prevention Network, una organización local sin fines de lucro que brinda educación valiosa sobre prevención del delito y conciencia de seguridad, juega un papel importante en la prestación de servicios como Alert Neighbours, Crime Stoppers, Generation Txt y Safe Escape.

La tercera reunión se llevará a cabo a las 6 p.m. el 9 de enero en Ou-tulsa, 4502 E. 41st St., en el Learning Center - Room 145.

Siete miembros actuales del departamento de policía de Tulsa han solicitado el puesto de jefe, pero el alcalde Bynum dijo que consideraría a los solicitantes de fuera del departamento y la ciudad si no se encuentra a la mejor persona para el trabajo localmente.

TULSA, OK -- Mayor G.T. Bynum announced last week that he and the Crime Prevention Network will hold three town halls in January focused on receiving public feedback as part of the search for the new Chief of the Tulsa Police Department.
“Since Chief Jordan announced his pending retirement, I’ve heard from so many of my fellow Tulsans with valuable thoughts and advice,” Bynum said. “Hiring the next Chief of Police will be one of the most important things I do during my time as mayor, and I want to make sure any Tulsan with thoughts to share has the ability to do so.”
The public forums come after current Police Chief Chuck Jordan announced his 2020 retirement. The forum is meant to hear public feedback on how they would like the search to go and what they would like to see in Tulsa’s next police chief.
“It is important to me that I hear from my fellow Tulsans what they hope to see in and from our next Chief of Police,” the mayor said.
Crime Prevention Network, a local nonprofit that provides valuable crime prevention education and safety awareness, plays an important role in providing services like Alert Neighbors, Crime Stoppers, Generation Txt and Safe Escape.
“With safety as a priority for Tulsa Crime Prevention Network, we are thrilled to co-host the public discussions for Tulsa’s next Chief of Police with the City of Tulsa,” Crime Prevention Network Executive Director Karen Gilbert said. “We encourage those who value Tulsa to be a safer place to live, work and play to attend the town hall meetings.”
The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on January 7 at Hardesty Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., in Frossard Auditorium.
The second meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on January 8 at Rudisill Library, 1520 N. Hartford Ave., in Ancestral Hall.

Each meeting is scheduled for two hours.
Seven current members of the Tulsa Police Department have applied for the position of chief, but Mayor Bynum said he would consider applicants from outside the department and the city if the best person for the job isn’t found locally.
