El defensivo de los Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin, fue dado de alta este lunes tras permanecer una semana internado en el Centro Médico de la Universidad de Cincinnati por un paro cardíaco que sufrió el 2 de enero durante un partido.

"Estamos emocionados y orgullosos de compartir que Damar Hamlin fue dado de alta del hospital y regresó a Buffalo. Puedo confirmar que él está bien. Este es el comienzo de la próxima etapa de su recuperación", anunció el doctor William Knight en conferencia de prensa.

Hamlin se desvaneció durante el partido de Bills y Bengals después de una jugada en la que tackleó a un adversario. El jugador estuvo conectado a un respirador artificial en condición crítica durante cuatro días.

El viernes le fue retirada la respiración asistida. Hamlin se comunicó con sus compañeros y entrenadores por medio de una vídeo llamada a través de la cuál les dijo: "Los amo, muchachos".

En la conferencia de este lunes, el doctor Timoteo Pritts dijo que el jugador vio el partido del domingo pasado que Buffalo ganó por 35-23 a los New England Patriots. "Damar pudo ver el partido de los Bills ayer desde el hospital. Cuando los Bills anotaron luego de la patada de salida él estaba saltando arriba y abajo", aseveró Timoteo Pritts.

Durante ese partido el defensor fue homenajeado por sus compañeros, quienes durante el calentamiento lucieron camisetas con el mensaje "Amor por Damar" (Love for Damar), algo que se replicó en los 16 partidos de la última semana de temporada regular del 2022.

One week after his terrifying collapse, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was discharged from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Monday and has returned home.

Hamlin was in the hospital since he first experienced cardiac arrest on the field during the Bills’ Week 17 game against the Bengals on Jan. 2.

"We are thrilled and proud to share that Damar Hamlin has been released from the hospital and returned to Buffalo," the UC Medical Center said in a statement through the Bills. "He is doing well and this is the next stage of his recovery."

Hamlin’s case has been transferred to a hospital in Buffalo, where he will continue to recover, something that will be measured in “weeks to months.”

"That's unbelievable. I was just upstairs talking to somebody about when that would be," Bengals coach Zac Taylor said after learning Hamlin had been released, via Fox19's Joe Danneman. "Just think about it, that was not even a week ago. There's no one in this room that expected he'd be in Buffalo [after] what we saw even Tuesday morning.

"God is great, he works miracles. This is certainly a miracle, no question."

Hamlin went down in the first quarter of the Bills' game against the Bengals after a collision with Cincinnati receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin stood up after that play, but then suddenly stumbled back and collapsed. He remained on the field for a long time while athletic trainers and medical staff performed CPR. He was eventually transported to the hospital, and the game was canceled.
