FLOOD PREPAREDNESS EXPO SCHEDULED FOR MAY 2

-

TULSA, OK -- Spring can be a rainy season in Oklahoma, and +ooding is always possible. To be prepared, it is considered best to buy a +ood insurance policy before a +ood occurs. The policy needs to be in effect for at least 30 days before it will cover damage from a +ood.

For this and other vital information about +ood insurance and preparedness, Tulsa residents are invited to attend the City of Tulsa’s Flood Preparedness Expo on Tuesday, May 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Central Center at Veterans Park, 1028 E. Sixth St. Attendees can browse information booths and hear from weather and preparedness experts; light refreshments will be served.

With Tulsa’s Class 1 rating in the National Flood Insurance Program, residents and property owners within the city limits are eligible for the lowest rates in the nation for +ood insurance – a 45 percent discount. Flood insurance needs to be purchased as a separate policy; homeowners’ insurance policies usually do not cover +ooding.

Tulsa News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer will serve as emcee at the Flood Preparedness Expo, also sharing some of his specialized knowledge about rain and +ooding. Other experts participating in this event will include Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready, National Weather Service Hydrologist Nicole Mcgavock, Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Joe Kralicek, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District Emergency Management Chief Bill Smiley.

The Flood Preparedness Expo will conclude with a question-and-answer session with the assembled experts. Weather may possibly affect this event; any scheduling changes will be announced as needed.
