The wait is Dnally over. This weekend the 2024 Formula 1 season begins with the Bahrain Grand Prix and after the Drst tests, everything indicates that the competition will continue in the same tone as last season: Red Bull will be the team to win, with the RB20, but in reality the competition will be Max Verstappen and the rest.

In this group, the Mexican driver Sergio 'Checo' Pérez appears, Dghting the secondary positions of each podium against the drivers of Ferrari, Mclaren, Mercedes and even Aston Martin. However, this does not seem like good news for the Mexican, since at the end of last season he declared that his new challenge, after obtaining the runner-up of Drivers, for the Drst time in his career, was just to Dght the title against Max Verstappen himself.

According to Auto Motor Sport, from the German press, there is no way in which another driver can dispute the title of Drivers against the Dutch driver, who will look for the four-time championship and Checo is feeling too much pressure on the possibility of being Verstappen's main rival, entering his last year of contract with the Austrian team and therefore, since before the start of the season, he already feels strong pressure.

"Pérez crawled through the paddock with a depressed face. His teammate was on average between six and seven tenths faster," the publication said, after the Dnal pre-season tests carried out this Saturday.

This same situation would have already been detected by the team's main advisor, Helmut Marko, who told F1 this Sunday that: "Pérez has to get Max out of his head and direct his own program."

"The Mexican is already getting nervous about his plans for the future. He is positioning himself everywhere in case he loses his place in Red Bull. And no one wants to go there voluntarily. Everyone is afraid that Verstappen will beat him up," concludes Auto Motor Sport about its conclusions about the pre-season.

This, however, and that the presence of Checo has been fundamental for Max Verstappen to win his Drst Driver title in 2021 and the two-time Championship of Constructors of 2022 and 2023, but it seems that it will not be enough to Dght oneon-one against his teammate.

Not everyone sees Checo so far behind Verstappen in 2024

Despite the situation of pressure that seems to prevail in the Austrian team, not everyone sees the Mexican from the Nerlandées so far. This weekend, the former driver also gave his favorites for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

"What I can see from the viewer's point of view is that Max Verstappen and Checo Pérez's Red Bulls are the big favorites to get on the podium next week," the Australian told Planetf1.
