Mexico with the United States, Canada and Brazil in the semi nals of the Women's Gold Cup: The new level of the Tri?

Pedro López's team has played 22 games without losing, what does all this mean?

Mexico has gotten into, surely surprisingly for many, in the semiknals of the Krst Women's Gold Cup in a fact that has powerfully attracted the attention of all soccer fans in our country and as is commonly the case, it is extremely di.cult to explain the reasons, the same has happened in successful events, such as in resounding failures.

That is why it is worth putting in context the huge difference that a year and a half makes in the history of women's soccer in Mexico, it seems that it happened a long time ago, but it was in mid-2022 that Mexico, playing at home, was left out of the 2023 World Cup when it was in last place in its group when it lost all three games to Jamaica, Haiti and the United States.

Pedro López's great stage in Mexico

After that failure Mónica Vergara ceased to be the Technical Director and after a small interim of Miguel Ángel Gamero and Cristian Flores that included a defeat in a friendly against New Zealand, the Spaniard Pedro López came at the helm and, after that, everything changed.

After the aforementioned defeat against the Oceania team, Mexico has linked 22 games between o.cials and friendly and has not lost a single one of them, in total there are 18 wins and four draws and, in the process, the gold medals were won at the Central American Games in San Salvador and the Pan American Games in Santiago, both held in 2023.

Mexico and its fabulous Women's Gold Cup 2024

But, at least until now, undoubtedly the climax of this unprecedented era of Pedro López has been last Monday's victory 2-0 against the United States in the Krst phase of the aforementioned 2024 Women's Gold Cup, barely the second victory in history against the powerful team of 'Las Barras y Las Estrellas' and this with complete merit and with a couple of goals of Jacqueline Ovalle and Mayra Pelayo have made completely visible this rise in the level of Mexican women's soccer, that of national teams, not that of the league that has already had a growth since a long time ago.

Mexico will face Brazil next Wednesday, March 6, looking to reach the Knal of the 2024 Women's Gold Cup and plays in the semiknal instance where, in addition to the South American team, the other two countries of North America, the United States and Canada, are, and although it seems di.cult to put Pedro López's team at that competitive level, the strong fact is that it has an opportunity to convince us that it has reached that level, although it seems di.cult to believe.
