A ‘becer’ CHATGPT may arrive later this year
Openai plans to launch GPT-5, an advanced language model surpassing GPT-4. The midyear release will introduce new features like calling AI agents for tasks, with safety testing and revenue streams crucial for Openai. The report also noted that there is no decision on the release date for the new model and speci c timeframe when safety testing needs to be completed.
Openai may be planning to launch its next large language model (LLM) – the technology which powers CHATGPT AI chatbot – in the coming months, a report has said. The next version, which may be called GPT-5, is said to be “materially better” than the GPT-4.
Citing two people familiar with the matter, a report by Business Insider says that the Sam Altmanled company is on track to launch GPT-5 sometime mid-year, likely during summer.
Furthermore, some businesses have already received demos of the latest model, comparing its related enhancements to the CHATGPT tool, said another person.
“It's really good, like materially better,” one CEO who saw a version of GPT-5 was quoted as saying. Openai demonstrated the new model with use cases and data unique to his company, the CEO said, adding that there were also some unreleased capabilities of the model, including the ability to call AI agents being developed by Openai to perform tasks autonomously.
Openai still training GPT-5
Openai’s GPT-5 is reportedly still under training, and post this, the model will be safety tested internally. The model will then be “red teamed” – which means employees and a selection of outsiders challenge the tool in various ways to Tnd issues before it's made available to the public.
The report also noted that there is no specitc timeframe when safety testing needs to be completed and the information on the release date for the new model is not available yet. Openai’s main revenue stream is sales of its AI models to enterprise customers.
Openai launched GPT-4 in March last year, and upgraded its capabilities by bringing in GPT 4-Turbo in November. This model is said to be more capable and has knowledge of world events up to April 2023.
