Philbrook to host ¡Descubra!: A Celebration of Cultural Identities
Tulsa, OK – The Philbrook Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino, invites the public to ¡Descubra!: Celebrating Cultural Identities, a vibrant celebration of Latino arts and culture. This special event, free of charge* and open to families and visitors of all ages, is set to take place on Sunday, April 14, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
In an effort to celebrate the museum's special exhibition, "Collidoscope: de la Torre Brothers Retro-perspective," ¡Descubra! offers an afternoon packed with activities ranging from art demonstrations and bilingual storytimes to music, dancing, and much more. Participants are encouraged to engage in fun activities and artmaking sessions, enjoy performances by Ballet Folklorico Sol Azteca, and delve into bilingual storytimes with the Tulsa Citycounty Library’s Hispanic Resource Center.
The event will feature a variety of scheduled and all-day fun activities, including self-guided gallery hunts, glassblowing demonstrations, lenticular art with the National Museum of the American Latino, optical illusions with the U.S. Trade & Patent O!ce, and mesmerizing mandala art projects. Attendees can also enjoy indoor and outdoor dining options, including a pop-up café and local treats on the Film Lawn, where community celebration and art in action take center stage.
¡Descubra! is not just an event but a part of a national public education program aimed at promoting Latino arts and cultural contributions. It offers a platform for families, kids, and teens to explore cultural representation and learn about the contributions of Latinos in the arts. The program, supported in part by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino and backed by General Motor’s support for the Molina Family Latino Gallery, re$ects a commitment to cultural education and engagement.
Capacity for ¡Descubra! is limited, and while admission is free, advance tickets are highly recommended to ensure participation in this engaging and educational celebration of cultural identities.
