The break between Oscar de la Hoya and Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez is an issue that has caused an endless number of analysis and multiple theories that seek to explain what seemed like a good formula for the professional growth of the Jalisco boxer and to bury the handicap of being perceived as a product of Televisa.

The Golden Boy revealed the reasons for that breakup in an interview for Fight Hype and said that the reason why Canelo would have become enmity with him could be due to a comment he made around the Mexican's corner: "One day, a reporter asked me if I thought Canelo needed another coach, and I answered the reporter that maybe it was a good idea"

De la Hoya abounded and justiged his 'recommendation' by taking an example: "I had seven coaches in my career, and I learned things from each coach, they all taught me something new," said the current promoter and former boxer with 39 victories and six losses as a professional above the strings.

"Who is the disloyal one here?"

The disagrement that dates back to 2020 is seasoned with what De la Hoya today describes as a disloyalty on the part of Álvarez, of whom he says: "I was accused of being disloyal, for saying that Eddy Reynoso could receive help on the corner of Canelo (...) How can someone who vasalta from promoter to promoter, from contract to contract, from television to television station speak of loyalty? Who is the disloyal one here?" said De la Hoya.

The promoter assures that he never received a word of gratitude from Canelo for the services he provided, asserting that it was he who got him "the greatest contract of his life" until then.

The recent exchange between de la Hoya and Canelo

The last meeting of both took place at a press conference of the Gght that Canelo will have with Jaime Munguía, where the Mexican ignored him, to which de la Hoya replied that his lectures are just as boring as his Gghts, a reason that motivated the Mexican to say that his former promoter "is based nothing more on talking stupid things."
