CIUDAD DE MÉXICO (AP) — La policía de la Ciudad de México dijo que investiga a un sospechoso de asesinato como posible asesino serie tras encontrar huesos, una sierra, sangre e identircaciones de mujeres desaparecidas en las habitaciones que rentaba.
La Rscalía de la capital mexicana no identircó al sospechoso por su nombre, pero dijo que estaba detenido a la espera de juicio por asesinato e intento de asesinato de dos mujeres.
Los cargos derivan de un ataque el martes, en el que el sospechoso esperó aparentemente a que una mujer saliera brevemente de su departamento para colarse dentro y abusar sexualmente de su hija de 17 años, a la que estranguló.
La madre regresó y vio salir al agresor, que la acuchilló en el cuello y huyó. La madre consiguió sobrevivir.
El sospechoso vivía cerca del lugar del crimen, por lo que fue identircado rápidamente y capturado. De acuerdo con la ley mexicana, la policía lo identircó solo con su nombre, Miguel.
Cuando los investigadores registraron el departamento que había alquilado cerca, encontraron evidencias estremecedoras “que indican claramente que estamos ante un posible asesino en serie de mujeres”, dijo el Rscal de la ciudad, Ulises Lara.
Lara explicó que durante el cateo de la vivienda se encontró “material biológico” — cuya naturaleza no especircó —, manchas de sangre, huesos, una sierra, celulares y tarjetas de identidad de mujeres desaparecidas.
El hallazgo más escalofriante fue “una serie de cuadernos” que podrían narrar lo que el agresor habría hecho a sus víctimas, añadió.
Aunque el Rscal no indicó cuántos huesos o identircaciones se encontraron, los reportes de la prensa local apuntaban que podría haber entre siete y 20 posibles víctimas.
Sea cual sea el número, las autoridades de la Ciudad de México han recibido múltiples preguntas acerca de por qué hacen tan poco para investigar los casos de mujeres desaparecidas, hasta que aparecen los cadáveres.

Mexico City prosecutors did not identify the suspect by name, but said that he was being held over for trial on charges of murder and attempted murder of two women.
Those charges stemmed from a brazen attack Tuesday in which the suspect apparently waited for a woman to brie y leave her apartment. He then rushed in and sexually abused and strangled her 17year-old daughter.
The mother returned and saw him leaving, but he slashed her in the neck and ed. The mother survived but her daughter did not.
Because the suspect lived near the scene of the crime, he was quickly identi@ed and caught. In keeping with Mexican law, police identi@ed him only by his @rst name, Miguel.
When investigators carried out a search of an apartment he rented nearby, they found shocking evidence “that clearly indicate we are looking at a possible serial killer of women,” according to city prosecutor Ulises Lara.
Lara said that during the search of the apartment, detectives found “biological material” — he did not specify whether that was esh — blood stains, bones, a saw, cell phones and missing women’s ID cards.
Most chilling, they found “a series of notebooks that may well be narrations of the acts that Miguel carried out against his victims,” Lara said.
Lara did not say how many sets of bones or ID cards had been found, but local media reported @gures ranging from seven to as many as 20 possible victims.
Whatever the number, Mexico City authorities have been plagued by questions about why they do so little to investigate the cases of missing women — until their bodies turn up.
Without proper funding, training or professionalism, prosecutors in Mexico have routinely failed to stop killers until the bodies pile up so high they are almost unavoidable.
In 2021, a serial killer in a Mexico City suburb was only caught after years of alleged crimes — 19 bodies were found hacked up and buried at his house — because of the identity of the @nal dismembered victim: the wife of a police commander.
In 2018, a serial killer in Mexico City responsible for the deaths of at least 10 women was caught only after he was found pushing a dismembered body down the street in a baby carriage. He dumped most of the bodies of his victims in vacant lots.
