MODIFIEDS HEAD NORTH TO EUREKA

Points race is extremely tight as NSMS joins racing card at Redwood Acres Raceway

-

The North State Modified Series (NSMS) presented by Protect the Harvest travels north Saturday night to make its first appearance this season at the Redwood Acres Raceway in Eureka. The race was originally slated for June but had to be rescheduled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Friday afternoon practice is scheduled beginning at 3 p.m. and running through 8 p.m. on the three-eighths-mile paved oval. Redwood Acres Raceway is located on the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds at 3750 Harris Street.

Sponsoring the event is McMurray & Sons Roofing, which has been in business for more than 100 years in Eureka. The owner of the company, Dave McMurray, has added $1,000 to the winner’s share of the purse, bringing the winner’s payout to $2,000. He is also paying the first 20 NSMS drivers to enter the race an additional $200. With the top 10 in points getting $200 tow money from Lucas Oil and positions 11-15 in points receiving $100 from Lucas Oil, this “show-up” money is extremely enticing to the modified competitors.

The Lucas Oil Dash for Cash contenders run for $100 to win and $50 for second place.

The Eureka event is only be the third race of the season for NSMS. The other two were held at Lakeport Speedway where Kyle Tellstrom won the first race, beating Charlie Collins and Mike Sullivan to the checkered flag. Collins returned the favor in the second Lakeport race, beating Tellstrom to the finish line with Scott Winters taking third.

The 2020 points race is a close battle with Tellstrom holding a 10-point lead over Collins going into this weekend’s event. Winters trails Collins by nine points, and Sullivan sits 10 point behind Winters. Fifth in points is Darrin Sullivan, only two points behind Sullivan. Two points behind Sullivan is Cody Braund.

The NSMS cars join the Redwood Acres Raceway bombers, roadrunners, Legends Cars and mini-stocks on Saturday’s racing card.

The North State Modified Series is presented by Protect the Harvest, Lucas Oil, McMurray & Sons Roofing, Hoosier Tire West, Sunoco Race Fuels, Naake Suspension, Five Star Bodies, Mark & Sharon Baldwin, Scribner Plastics, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Economy Heating and Air
