Points title down to one race
Three drivers remain in running for 2020 NSMS championship
The North State Modified Series presented by Protect the Harvest ends its 2020 season with a grand finale Saturday night at the Stockton 99 Speedway where drivers will be competing for $3,200 to win the inaugural Bob Lehman Classic, a 60-lap feature event that honors the life and legacy of longtime race enthusiast and NSMS supporter Bob Lehman of Rio Linda.
Terry Deal of Economy Heating & Air in Roseville added $2,000 to the winner’s share of the purse and Timm Williams donated another $200 to the top spot.
“Bob Lehman was a huge inspiration to the start of my career in racing,” Deal said. Added Williams, “I own one of Bob Lehman’s cars — his limited modified. I’m gonna give $200 to the winner of the memorial race in memory of Bob Lehman.”
In addition, Simi Tour of The Great American Seed Company added $50 to the purse money for second through 24th place, guaranteeing at least $200 to take the green flag.
It is final points race in the NSMS championship battle. Kyle Tellstrom of Ukiah holds a 30-point lead over defending champion Scott Winters of Tracy going into Stockton while Darrin Sullivan of Kelseyville sits third in points, trailing Winters by only 20 points. They are the only drivers who have a mathematical chance of winning the 2020 NSMS championship.
Sitting fourth in points is Dustin DeRosier of Cloverdale, and Mike Sullivan of Kelseyville is fifth. Sixth through 10th are Charlie Collins, Cody Braund, Chris Salmina, Ian Elliott and Keith Bloom.
In addition to the regular NSMS competitors, several other Sacramento Valley drivers who loved and respected Bob Lehman
are planning to run in this event. NSMS is sharing the spotlight on the racing card with the Stockton Late Models, the Sinister Jr. Late Models, the B4 Cylinders, the bombers, Mini Cups and bandoleros. Pit gate opens at 11 a.m. and racing starts at 3 p.m.
