LAKEPORT >> A changing of the guard was the first order of the day at Tuesday’s Lake County Board of Supervisors’ first regular meeting of the new year. By a unanimous vote, District 3 Supervisor Eddie “EJ” Crandell was elected board chair and District 4 Supervisor Tina Scott was elected board vice-chair for 2022. Crandell and Scott were nominated by 2021 Board Chair Bruno Sabatier, who stepped down as chairman to be able to advance his nominations. As the new BOS chair and vice-chair, Crandell and Scott also assumed the same roles for both the county’s Board of Equalization and In-Home Support Services.

“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to serve as chair of the Lake County Board of Supervisors,” Crandell said, after the meeting. “I look forward to continuing to build consensus surrounding complex issues, and will seek to listen effectively, and ensure key stakeholders have a voice in matters before our board. Goals and priorities for our county government, as a whole, are driven by Vision 2028. As chair, I will work to ensure progress is made in those defined areas of priority.

“The lens that focuses all of our work as a board is seeking to promote the well-being of every Lake County resident. I look forward to being a part of Community Visioning Forums promoting tolerance, respect, equity and inclusion this year, for example, and seeing us make real progress in celebrating our county’s diverse communities, including the rich history of our seven tribal nations. I will also continue to listen to and promote the needs of District 3 residents, specifically. It is a privilege to give voice to the concerns and needs of my neighbors. This is an exciting time to be in Lake County. We are building and making investments that will resonate for generations. Together, we can continue the upward trend, and I look forward to leading further efforts to strengthen Lake County, now and for the future.”

Vision 2028, as described in the county’s website, is a “living document intended to reflect the priorities of Lake County’s residents and communities, and the Board of Supervisors commitment to see beyond immediate challenges and build

a brighter future.” The document lists the county’s 10 key priorities over a 10-year period. They include: Promoting the wellbeing and economic resilience of county residents; maintaining a transparent county government that is responsive, effective and fair; continuing rebuilding to recover from recent disasters; enhancing public safety; growing the county’s economy and spurring the creation of local jobs; improving infrastructure; supporting the county workforce, collaborating with tribes, cities and community groups to maximize opportunities; taking care of Clear Lake; and investing in the people of Lake County.

On her role as the new BOS vice-chair, Scott said, “The responsibility of the vice-chair is to take over a meeting if the chair is unavailable or has to remove himself from a session. My goals and priorities are to make sure our meetings are open to the public and always given time to comment and ask questions.”
