Garrity competing in Viking Track Classic

CLHS sophomore going up against some of section's top runners

LAKEPORT >> Clear Lake High School sophomore distance runner Hannah Garrity face the best of the best Saturday during the annual Viking Track Classic at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.

Many of the top distance runners in the North Coast Section are attending the Viking, which fields a full compliment of track and field events broken up by division — varsity, open and invite. Garrity is competing in the most competitiv­e division, the invite, in the 800 meters, 1,600 and 3,200.

Garrity enters the Viking as the sixth seed at 3,200 meters, the eighth seed at 1,600 meters and the 12th seed at 800 meters based on times run during the current season. Her top times so far in 2022 are 11 minutes, 32.5 seconds in the 3,200, 5:15.8 in the 1,600 and 2:31.3 in the 800.

No. 1 seeds are Athena Ryan of Sonoma Academy in the 3,200 (10:40.4), Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery in the 1,600 (4:49.0) and Adeline Johnson of Branson in the 800 (2:16.8).

Other top runners in the Invite field include Emma Dunmire and Brianna McInnis of Tamalpais, Gracie Trenam and Ashley Busienel of Maria Carrillo, Carolina Dawson of West County, Maizie Martin of Fort Bragg, Yasmine Puac of Terra Linda, Ellie Black of Piedmont, Audrey MacLean of Redwood and Lilja Chung of Windsor.

Garrity reached the CIF State Finals in cross country during the fall sports season, placing 36th in the Division 5 race.

Garrity and her Clear Lake teammates have one more regular-season meet remaining before the Coastal Mountain Conference Championsh­ips take place May 7 in St. Helena. The North Coast Section Class A Championsh­ips take place May 14 at Montgomery High School followed by the Meet of Champions May 2021 at Dublin High School and the CIF State Championsh­ips May 27-28 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.
