Mustangs take 2nd to Saints

Hoogendoorn's 74 leads M'town in South action

-

SANTA ROSA >> St. Helena's low four scorers all shot in the 70s Thursday as the Saints topped the field during a Coastal Mountain Conference South golf match at Sugarloaf Golf Club in Santa Rosa.

Luke Hoogendoorn's round of 74, the second-best round of the day, led Middletown, which finished second in team scoring with 316 behind St. Helena's 303. Technology was next with 385 while Credo, Kelseyville and Victory Christian were all incomplete (fewer than four golfers).

With two CMC South matches remaining — next Thursday at Windsor Golf Club and May 3 at Valley of the Moon Golf Club in Santa Rosa — St. Helena leads the South with a 28-2 record to Middletown's 26-4. If Middletown can win the final two matches, the two teams would finish tied atop the standings and a sudden-death tiebreaker would take place after regulation play at Valley of the Moon is complete.

The CMC's individual champion and at-large berths in the sectional playoffs on May 9, also at Valley of the Moon, also will be determined by the final 36 holes of the regular season.

Micah Meraz Ha of St. Helena was the medalist Thursday with a low round of 73. HIs teammates were close behind with rounds of 75, 76 and 79.

Besides Hoogendoorn, who had two birdies during his round, Middletown's Bodhi Moore also finished in the 70s, shooting a 78. Other Middletown scores had Cooper Johnson at 80 and Dom Williams finished at 84.

Sebastian Maurice led Technology with 83 while Credo's Gavin Whitright fired an 82.

For Kelseyville, Lander Hockett led the Knights with 102, Lizzy Malaspina had 109, and Nate Sherman finished with 109.
