Elizabeth Ann Callahan

-

Elizabeth Ann Callahan, a long-time resident of Lakeport, died on April 7, 2022, in Fargo, ND. She asked that we not publish her birth year, unless “she was really old.” Since she was always young at heart, we honor her wish. She was born in San Mateo, CA, to Richard Gordon and Corinne Gneiting Eastman. Liz, as she was affectionately known, was raised in Atherton, CA.

After graduating from Brigham Young University, she lived and taught elementary students in Saratoga, CA. She moved to Lakeport, CA, in 1977 and continued to teach elementary aged students for a total of 36 years. Teaching was her passion. So, it was no surprise she received a Teacher of the Year award. Many of her students fondly remember dissecting owl pellets, making gingerbread houses, and learning square dancing.

Liz loved being with her grandchildren, spending time doing yard work, and any activity that included her canine companions. She spent many of her later years teaching and participating in the therapy dog program. She also trained her beloved dogs to do agility and nose-work skills. Liz often said people would not recognize her if she did not bring along her dogs.

She wanted everyone to know she was proud of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Michael Callahan; stepdaughter,

Colleen Callahan-Brucker; grandchildren, Brittany Callahan, Garrett Callahan, Connor Callahan, Trisha Callahan, Tina Callahan, Nick Callahan, Shea Brucker, and Carey Brucker; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Gorton Eastman and Corinne Gneiting Eastman; sisters, Elaine Vallett, Caroline Johnson, and Annette Eastman; stepson, Patrick Callahan; and husband, Thomas Callahan.

There will be an online Celebration of Life live event/video for Liz on 5/8/22 at 6 p.m. PST.
