County Junior sign-up deadline is Saturday

>> The 29th annual Lake County Junior Golf Championsh­ip takes place Wednesday at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

The tournament is open to boys and girls ages 10-17 (determined by you age on the day of the event). There are boys and girls flights available for ages 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17 with overall champions for boys and girls.

The entry fee of $15 includes golf, lunch, tee prizes and awards. Make checks payable to Adams Springs Junior Golf and mail to John Berry, 1800 S. Main St., No. 48, Lakeport, CA., 95453. Entry and payment must be received by no later than Saturday by 4 p.m.

Participan­ts can call the Adams Springs pro shop at (707) 928-9992 after 10 a.m. on Monday, July 19 to get their tee time. Tee times range from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Older ages play 18 holes while ages 10-11 play nine holes.

Defending overall champions are Austin Pritchard (three-time champ) and Emma Mertle, who won last year's girls title in a suddendeat­h playoff. Other flight champions in 2021 were Nathon Lopez (boys 16-17), Charles Johnson (boys 1415), J.T. Allred (boys 12-13), Chase Allred (boys 10-11), Keara Alonso (girls 16-17) and Sofia Arredondo (girls 14-15).

Consistent with NorCal junior tournament­s, the Lake County Junior does not allow caddies. Spectators

and fans must remain 30 feet away from contestant­s. Spectator advice is prohibited and will result in penalty or disqualifi­cation under the Rules of Golf. Contestant­s can carry their bag or use a pull cart. Motorized carts are prohibited.
