Any educators in the Clear Lake region may receive training. In order to receive compensation for piloting, participants must complete all of the following:
Attend the March 30 training.
Provide feedback on the training to the project team via survey.
Pilot the materials with youth during April and May.
Provide feedback on the pilot experience to the project team via survey in May and June.
About the project:
Over the past year and a half, the project team spoke to over 50 community members, presented at organizational meetings, attended outreach events, and organized a Tribal Environmental Education Advisory Committee. These efforts were undertaken to gather Tribal and community priorities and needs for environmental education in the region, and helped inform the environmental education materials. These materials are designed to support youth learning about priority environmental topics identified by the community and build a stewardship towards Clear Lake and its watershed.
The project materials are drafted for use by nonformal educators working with 3rd through 5th grade youth in non-formal expanded learning settings. They incorporate participatory science opportunities, analyze local data, utilize local restoration projects, and provide options for youth advocacy. The UC Davis project team invites interested educators and community members to receive training, test pilot the materials with youth, and provide feedback from the pilot experience in April and May 2024 (compensation available).
Join us in this collaborative effort to empower the youth of Lake County with environmental education and participatory science. Community feedback ensures that the environmental education materials developed for this project are reflective of the priorities and needs of the Clear Lake region. Your involvement can make an impact on the future health of Clear Lake and its surrounding watershed.
