The Middletown High School golf team continued its dominant play in the Coastal Mountain Conference's South Division tournament play with a 32 stroke victory over second place St. Helena High School at Rooster Run Golf Club in Petaluma on Thursday. The golfing Mustangs played tough in difficult conditions. On an overcast day with blustery winds and temperatures in the low 50s, the MHS core of Cooper Johnson, Dom Williams, Bodhi Moore, and Blake Costlow toughed it out to lengthen their lead in CMC play.

Middletown had some familiarity with a difficult Rooster Run Golf Club as the Mustangs had competed in league play as well as the North Coast Sections last year in Petaluma. Long hitting Cooper Johnson, a two time Lake County Junior champion, led his teammates with an 11 over par score of 83. Dom Williams, coming off a tournament leading score of 64 last week at the Sugarloaf Golf Course, chipped in with a solid score of 86. Cooper's cousin, Bodhi Moore, shot an 88 while Blake Costlow carded a 90. Johnson, Williams, and Moore were the only golfers in the 32 player field to shoot in the 80s. Middletown had a team score of 347 to run away with week three of tournament action. They now sit atop the CMC South Division standings with a perfect 12-0 record.

For the third time this season, St. Helena High School secured second place in league play with a team score of 379. The golfing Saints were led by Ethan Peterson who posted a 91. Micha Meraz Ha turned in a score of 94 while Jack Robinson had a 96 and Russell Wilms carded a 98. Technology High School of Rohnert Park finished in the middle of the pack with a team score of 403. Sebastian Maurice and Devon Engebreth each put up a score of 99. Eli Goldberg of Sonoma Academy shot a 99 to lead his team. Sonoma Academy shot a team score of 449. Kelseyville High School finished eight strokes behind Sonoma Academy with a team score of 457. The golfing Knights were led by Adam Astrup with a 108. Ethan Gambill posted a 113, and Nate Sherman shot a 114. Caleb Lopez carded a 122. St. Helena is 9-3 in the league standings while Technology has a 6-6 record. Sonoma Academy comes in at 3-9 and Kelseyville has a 0-12 record.

Although the rains of Thursday morning dissipated slightly before the 1:30pm tee time at Rooster Run, windy conditions added to making it a tough day on the links. The cold, blustery northwesterly winds added three clubs to iron play and hitting greens in regulation was nothing short of difficult.

The Coastal Mountain Conference continues league play next Wednesday, April 3rd at the South Course at the Foxtail Golf Course in Rohnert Park. Tee times commence at 1:30pm.
