Middletown golfers clinch Coastal Mountain title

The golf team at Middletown High School completed the sixth weekly tournament in the 2024 CMC South season in style as it clinched the league title for the second year in a row and for the third time in four seasons. There are still two more weeks of the regular season remaining for the golfing Mustangs, but they have already punched their ticket to the North Coast Section Division II playoffs which will be held on Monday, May 6th at the Peacock Gap Golf Course in San Rafael. Middletown upped its record to a league perfect 24-0 and has a nine game lead in the standings with just eight one on one matches remaining.

The Mustangs shot a team score of 321. Their team tally featured true consistenc­y from its top four golfers. Dom Williams led the way with a +7 over par 79. Bodhi Moore shot an 80, Cooper Johnson carded an 81, and Jackson Conley added another 81. They finished 31 strokes ahead of the second place finisher, St. Helena. The Saints team total was 352 and they were led by Micha Meraz Ha's 82 and Burley Weeman's score of 87. St. Helena now has a 15-9 record. Technology High School finished in third place with a team total of 377. Lefty Sam O'Halloran came in with a low score of 87. Tech High now carries a 13-11 record after six weeks of tournament play. Sonoma Academy was led by Eli Goldberg's 87 and Cooper Cavigny who came in with an 88. Their team total was 414 and they now have a 7-17 record. Kelseyvill­e is in fifth place in the five team league. They shot a team score of 436. Their record is now 1-23. The golfing Knights were led by Ethan Gambill who shot a 99. Nate Sherman shot a 109, Adam Astrup added a 111, and Caleb Lopez posted a 117.

The CMC South resumes league play next Wednesday with its seventh week of tournament play at the Windsor Golf Club. Tee times begin at 1:30pm. Windsor is followed up by the season concluding tourney the following Monday at the Valley of the Moon Golf Club in east Santa Rosa. Windsor and VOM constitute the CMC South's qualifying tournament for five individual­s to advance to Peacock Gap alongside league champion Middletown.
