- By JAMIE MUNKS

A five-week public policy leadership series is launching this month for would-be public servants and policy-changers.

Professors from UNLV’s School of Public Policy and Leadership will teach the series, a partnership between the Leadership Foundation of Greater Las Vegas and the UNLV Greenspun College of Urban Affairs.

The course is meant for people interested in holding public office or leadership positions at nonprofits or in the public or private sectors who want to work on policy issues.

Course topics will include the role of elected officials in policy-making, communication with the media and citizens and the Nevada budgeting process.

College of Urban Affairs Dean Robert Ulmer called the series a “unique learning opportunity to enhance sound public policy and government effectiveness.”

The series will begin Sept. 22, and will take place on Thursday evenings for two-and-a-half hour sessions. The program cost is $750, and those interested in participating can apply through the Leadership Foundation of Greater Las Vegas by Friday.

The online application can be found at www.Leadership.Vegas.

The Leadership Foundation of Greater Las Vegas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce.

“Great communities need educated, focused and informed leaders,” said Lori Nelson, president of the Leadership Foundation Board of Directors.

“The Public Policy Leadership Series partnership with UNLV is an opportunity to help those serving in elected office have greater understanding of the chemistry of good public policy and governance,” Nelson said.
