East valley shooting leaves one person dead, one hurt

- By MAX MICHOR

A man died and a woman was injured after a Saturday morning shooting at a bar in the east valley.

Police responded to reports of a shooting just after 7 a.m. to the OK Corral bar, 1602 N. Nellis Blvd. Officers found a man who was shot two to three times. A waitress at the bar was shot once in the leg, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Dan McGrath said.

The man, in his 20s, died on the scene. The woman was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition and was expected to be released later Saturday, McGrath said.

The investigation indicated the shooting happened after a physical confrontation between the male victim and the shooter inside the bar, Metro said in a statement. Police said they think he might have left the bar but returned with the handgun and fired four to six shots.

Police said they think the employee was hit unintentionally.

A security guard at the bar chased the suspect through the parking lot and into a nearby neighborhood, but the suspect escaped, McGrath said.

Police describe the suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic man in his 20s with prescription glasses and a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, McGrath said.

Police are seeking help from the more than 30 people who were at the bar during the shooting to help identify the suspect and piece together the events leading up to the slaying.

McGrath urged the woman in a white car who was seen dropping the suspect off at the bar before the shooting to come forward. Anyone with information can call Metro’s homicide section at 702-828-3521.

It was the 11th homicide investigated by Metro and the 13th homicide in Clark County in 2017.
