Elliott, Flames shut out Jets for ninth consecutiv­e victory

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Brian Elliott made 31 saves for his second consecutiv­e shutout, and the Calgary Flames extended their winning streak to nine games with a 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

Mikael Backlund and Michael Frolik each scored on the power play, as the victory also gave Calgary points in 11 straight games.

Elliott’s second shutout of the season, and 36th of his career, followed up Thursday’s 24 saves in a 5-0 win over Montreal.

The nine straight victories set a record since the franchise moved from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980. The franchise record is 10 games in 1978.

Bruins 2, Flyers 1 — At Boston, Drew Stafford scored with 5.6 seconds left in the third period for Boston when his dump-in shot tipped off Philadelph­ia defenseman Brandon Manning’s stick.

David Pastrnak had a power-play goal, and Tuukka Rask made 26 saves for the Bruins.

Predators 3, Sharks 1 — Ryan Johansen and James Neal scored, and backup goalie Juuse Saros made 25 saves to help Nashville snap a fourgame losing streak.

Senators 4, Avalanche 2 — At Denver, Craig Anderson made 14 saves to set the franchise wins mark, and Ottawa moved into a tie atop the Atlantic Division with its sixth straight victory.

Sabres 5, Blue Jackets 3 — At Buffalo, N.Y., Evander Kane scored a power-play goal with 2:29 remaining for Buffalo, which rallied from a three-goal deficit to end Columbus’ three-game winning streak.

Maple Leafs 3, Hurricanes 2, OT — At Raleigh, N.C., Morgan Rielly scored 2:13 into overtime for Toronto, which won its third straight and moved one point ahead of the New York Islanders for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Lightning 3, Panthers 2 — At Tampa, Fla., Ondrej Palat scored on a redirectio­n with 2:23 left in the third period to complete Tampa Bay’s comeback from a two-goal deficit.

Blues 4, Islanders 3 — At St. Louis, Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice, and Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund also scored in St. Louis’ fourth straight win.

Coyotes 5, Devils 4 — At Glendale, Ariz., Tobias Reider and Anthony DeAngelo each had a goal and assist, and Arizona held on after leading 4-0 to hand New Jersey its 10th consecutiv­e loss.
