Spurs whip Warriors, edge closer to best record

SAN ANTONIO — Patty Mills had 21 points, and the San Antonio Spurs rolled to a 107-85 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday to pull within a half-game of the NBA’s top record.

The big showdown between the league’s top two teams turned into a huge letdown with both teams missing their star players.

Already without Kevin Durant due to a knee injury, Golden State opted to rest Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala.

Ian Clark had 36 points to lead Golden State, which suffered its third straight loss and fifth in seven games. Matt Barnes added 14 points and Zaza Pachulia had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Mills came through with a hot start with San Antonio missing Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and Dejounte Murray due to injuries. He matched a career high for points in a half with 21 in the opening quarters. He played only five minutes in the second half.

The Spurs made 12 3-pointers and led by as many as 28 points.

Suns 100, Mavericks 98 — At Dallas, Devin Booker scored 25 of his 36 points in the second half, including the winning 17-footer with 1.4 seconds left for Phoenix.

Pelicans 125, Hornets 122, OT — At Charlotte, N.C., Anthony Davis had 46 points and 21 rebounds, and New Orleans won despite DeMarcus Cousins sitting on the bench due to foul trouble in the fourth quarter.

Wizards 125, Trail Blazers 124, OT — At Portland, Ore., Markieff Morris hit the winning shot at the buzzer in overtime, and John Wall finished with 39 points and nine assists for Washington.

Nuggets 105, Kings 92 — At Sacramento, Calif., Jamal Murray scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, and Denver held on to beat Sacramento for the second time in six days.

Heat 104, Raptors 89 — At Miami, Dion Waiters scored 20 points, and Tyler Johnson added 16 points to help Miami improve to 21-4 over their last 25 games.

Cavaliers 116, Magic 104 — At Orlando, Fla., LeBron James had 24 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds, and Kyrie Irving scored 22 points to help Cleveland stop its three-game losing streak.

Bucks 102, Timberwolv­es 95 — At Milwaukee, Tony Snell had 19 points, Giannis Antetokoun­mpo scored 18 and Milwaukee held off a late challenge to earn its season-high sixth consecutiv­e victory.

Hawks 107, Grizzlies, 90 — At Memphis, Tenn., Taurean Prince scored a career-high 17 points, and Atlanta made 15 of 30 attempts from 3-point range to send Memphis to its fifth straight loss.

Thunder 112, Jazz 104 — At Oklahoma City, Russell Westbrook had 33 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds to record his 32nd triple-double of the season for Oklahoma City.

Clippers 112, 76ers 100 — At Los Angeles, Chris Paul scored 30 points, and DeAndre Jordan had 19 points and 20 rebounds for Los Angeles, which won despite trailing 79-75 after three quarters.

Pistons 112, Knicks 92 — At Auburn Hills, Mich., Tobias Harris scored 23 of his 28 points in the first half, and Andre Drummond had 24 points and 15 rebounds for Detroit, which sent New York to its fourth loss in five games.
