Patricia “Pat” Starks McNutt passed away October 20, 2017. She was born October 9, 1925, to DJ and Agnes Starks in Conklin, Michigan and was raised in Stanton, Michigan. She attended Michigan State College and graduated from Butterwort­h Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Pat married Robert John McNutt July 12, 1947. They lived in Hillsdale, Hazel Park, Oak Park, Harper Woods, and Southfield, Michigan, before moving west to Scottsdale, Arizona and finally to Las Vegas in August 1962. Pat worked as a district advisor with the Frontier Girl Scout Council before receiving her bachelor and master degrees in education from UNLV. She had a 23-year teaching career at Faye Heron and Oran K. Gragson Elementary schools and was active in Clark County Classroom Teachers Associatio­n and Teachers in Politics. Her community activities included Interfaith Student Center at UNLV, Safe Nest, American Associatio­n of University Women, Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society Internatio­nal, Mesquite Club, Church Women United, Nevada Women’s History Project, Southern Branch, Southern Nevada Women’s History Project and Brookview Homeowners’ Board of Directors. She was an ordained elder of the Presbyteri­an Church and served the church as Sunday School teacher, Junior and Senior High Youth Advisor, Advisor to the Nevada Youth Presbytery, Moderator of Presbyteri­an Women at First Presbyteri­an Church and Moderator of the Presbyteri­an Women in the Presbytery of Nevada. After Bob’s death, Pat moved to Las Ventanas in 2008, where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents, DJ and Agnes Starks; sister, Nancy Prince; and brother, John Starks. Pat is survived by her daughters, Marcia Thornton (Don) and Jane McCoy (Jeff); four grandchild­ren; and five great-grandchild­ren. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 4, at Grace Presbyteri­an Church, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
