DAVID SCOTT

-

David Clark Scott, 80, passed away peacefully October 16, 2017, at Wentworth Assisted Care Facility, in Las Vegas. Born December 31, 1936, in Philadelphia, to Dorothy and Ashton Scott, he attended The Haverford School and stayed in contact with many of his boyhood schoolmates throughout his life. He went on to receive a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Yale and a PhD in Physics from Bryn Mawr College. In his youth, he spent summers fly fishing and canoeing the Allegash River in Maine, which was a great love of his and he reunited with his old friends and floated down the river again during 2000. After getting married and starting a family, he worked a number of years in the engineering field, in Pennsylvania and Maryland, then later worked in the oil business with his brother, Jim, frequently travelling through the south and western U.S. After living for a time with his daughter, Debbie, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he eventually went to live for several years with his other daughter, Betsy, in Hartland, Wisconsin. He finally moved to Las Vegas in 2004 to be nearer to his sons and younger grandchildren. Although he was divorced from his wife, Judy Elder, in 1974, they remained friends and visited and spoke often to the end of his life. He was an avid tennis player in his younger years, loved card games, especially bridge, horse racing and was a devoted sports fan, attending football and athletic events with his son, Michael, and his grandsons. In later years, he often enjoyed hiking adventures and prospecting trips with his son, Tim. He stayed up to date with his physics, always studying the latest advances in nuclear, quantum and astro-physics, as well as cancer and genetic research. David was truly a free spirit, often with a child’s view of life, seeing all the wonder in the world with a pure heart and befriending almost all he met. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. He is survived by sons and daughters, Elizabeth Scott Mieding, Deborah Scott Hanes (Mike), Timothy (Gina) and Michael (Lori); brother, James (Lynn); grandchildren, Laura Neu (Anthony), Constance Matson (Justin), Madeline Hanes, Emma Hanes, Tyler Scott, Aiden Scott, Preston Scott, AJ Scott and Alex Scott; and great-grandchild, Gunner Matson. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Wentworth Las Vegas, 2620 Lake Sahara Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89117. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or other charities dedicated to cancer research as David wanted.
