Woodrow Smith Jr., of Las Vegas, passed away October 19, 2017. Born August 30, 1938, in Chattanoog­a, Tennesse, Woodrow earned an Engineerin­g Degree at Tuskegee University in 1961 and a Master of Science-Finance from UCLA, in 1972. He met and married Mary Alyce Adams in 1967 and was the father of two sons, Woodrow III and Jason Edward. Woodrow was employed as an Engineerin­g Scientist in the Missile and Space Division of McDonnel Douglas, was an Assistant Vice President of Bank of America, created Woodrow Smith Financial Consultant­s and taught business management at Los Angeles City College, UCLA, and the American Management Associatio­n. Owning a McDonald’s Franchise brought the family to Las Vegas in 1986. Woodrow and Mary Alyce also owned a postal service center, two Great American Cookie Company Franchises and a screen printing business. After retiring, Woodrow taught business management at the College of Southern Nevada until 2015. Woodrow loved and enjoyed 45 cruise vacations before the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertensi­on and ALS brought his life to a standstill. Woodrow is survived by his wife, Mary Alyce; sons, Woodrow III (Amy) of Illinois and Jason Edward (Suzanne) of Nevada; daughter, Kirstie Kirby of Michigan; grandsons, Ryan Novak-Smith of Rhode Island and Jason Taylor of Nevada; granddaugh­ters, Tiara Smith of Nevada, Mya and Payton Kirby of Michigan; brother, Maurice (Taeko) Smith of California; sisters, Wenda Faye Williams of Tennessee, and Mary Alice Collier of Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at Shadow Hills Church, 7811 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas. Memorial donations may be made to The ALS Associatio­n, 3191 E.
