Arthur Mevius, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 17, 2018, in Las Vegas, with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; mother, Virdlea Mevius; father, William “Shaggy” Mevius; and brother, W. Murdock Mevius. He is survived by his three children, Kathy Mevius, Steve Mevius and Sharon Groesbeck; as well as his five grandchild­ren, Brittany York, and Jordan, Stephanie, Ryan, and Kyle Mevius. Art was born January 19, 1939, in Gulfport, Mississipp­i. Upon graduation from Pineville High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1959. It was on leave, during his time in the Army, that he met the love of his life, Rita, in London, England. Luckily for him, she decided to follow him back to the United States and Art and Rita I. Eyles were married in Chicago, Illinois, April 9, 1960. From there, they lived in Mobile, Alabama, and Jacksonvil­le, Florida, and ended up in Las Vegas, where Art lived for 48 years. Art was an avid hunter and fisher and loved to attend UNLV basketball games with his family and friends. Art worked for United Airlines for over 40 years, before retiring to serve as President of All Seasons Retractabl­e Screens. He is remembered for his generous spirit, his kind heart and the love he had for his family and friends. Viewing will be 1-2 p.m. Monday, February 26, with service following, both at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119. Burial following at Davis Memorial Park.
