Mary Elizabeth Chraft Hawley passed away February 18, 2018, in Las Vegas. She was born March 6, 1926, in Hastings, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Chraft Jr., to whom she was married from 1945 until his passing in 1977; by her second husband, Dave Hawley, to whom she was married from 1986 until his passing in 2016; by her sister, Mae Nelson, who passed in 2002; and estranged brother, Leslie Nelson. She is survived by her children, George “Skip” Chraft and Kathy “Boots” Gibson; two stepchildr­en, Benjamin and Thomas Hawley; stepgrandd­aughter, Nichole Kirstin Hawley; and her sister, Eva Rainforth. Mary was raised in a family that was very active in their church, she was very active in Valley Baptist-Presbyteri­an Church in Valley, Nebraska. When her family moved from Nebraska to Las Vegas in 1962, she became very active in the First Presbyteri­an Church (now Grace Presbyteri­an Church). She sang in the choir for 15 years, taught Sunday school, was copresiden­t of Nautilus Club, served as Moderator of Presbyteri­an Women for two terms, and was on the Board of Deacons for two terms. Mary was a lifelong homemaker who also loved sewing. For a short period after the death of her first husband, she worked as a seamstress on the Las Vegas Strip, which she found very enjoyable. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Grace Presbyteri­an Church, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd. Reception following. Inurnment will be in divided between both husband’s final resting places, at Palm Memorial Park, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, and Parkview Cemetery, 1246 N. Elm, Hastings, Nebraska, both at future dates.
