UNLV track team wins first Mountain West indoor title

Najia Hudspeth won the 400-meter run and anchored UNLV’s winning 1,600 relay Saturday, helping the Rebels win their first Mountain West indoor track and field title in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico.

Hudspeth won the 400 in a personalbe­st 54.07 seconds and teamed with Naylia Hudspeth, Avi’Tal Perteete and Kaysha Love to win the relay in 3:38.65.

UNLV had 13 top-eight finishes Saturday and was 14 points ahead of runner-up Colorado State in the 11-team meet.

■ UNLV softball: At Houston, Mia Trejo homered and scored twice to back Janine Petmecky (5-1), who pitched a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts, sending the Rebels to a 3-0 win over Yale (0-4) in the Houston Invitation­al. In UNLV’s second game, Savannah Heebner pitched a four-hitter to lift Houston (7-4) to a 2-0 victory over the Rebels (11-4).

■ UNLV baseball: At Wilson Stadium, Kyle Isbel had two home runs, a double and six RBIs to power the Rebels past Columbia 13-7 in the first game of a doublehead­er. In the second game, Trevor Horn blanked the Lions (0-3) on three hits over six innings to help UNLV (7-1) to an 11-0 victory.

■ UNLV men’s swimming and diving: At Houston, Brad Gonzales won the 1,650-yard freestyle, and fellow freshman Mark Theall won the 100 freestyle and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay, helping the Rebels place second in the six-team Western Athletic Conference Championsh­ips.

■ CSN baseball: At Morse Stadium, Jay DeSoto had two hits and two RBIs to back Ryan McDonald (4-0), who struck out seven over five innings, leading College of Southern Nevada (18-4) to its 14th straight win, 9-0 over Colorado Northweste­rn (3-9).
