GARY MORE, M.D.

-

Gary David More, M.D. of Chico, California, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at the age of 68. He was born in the fall of 1949, in Syracuse, New York, the son of L. Russell More of Syracuse, New York, and Muriel More (dec.) of Peabody, Massachusetts, and brother of Stanley More of Syracuse, New York, and Tracey More of Alfred Station, New York. He is survived by his wife, Susanne (nee O’Hora) More of Chico, California; and daughters, Delilah Moore of Portland, Oregon, and Katharine More of Las Vegas. Though they only lived 30 miles apart in upstate New York, Gary and Susanne met in Italy, then married the first day of summer in 1974. Gary attended Central Tech High School in Syracuse, New York, and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He went on to graduate from the University of Bologna Medical School in Bologna, Italy, and completed his internship and residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, New York, and Cardiology Fellowship at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Gary began his professional career at the Heart Institute of Nevada in 1984 in Las Vegas, then worked in several different cardiology practices across Las Vegas and southern California. He was also a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Brown University and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada. Since 2008, he worked as an interventional cardiologist at Northstate Cardiology Consultants in Chico, California, and was on staff at Enloe Hospital. He was a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, and the American College of Chest Physicians. Gary became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13, and kept himself busy by stamp collecting, alpine skiing, scuba diving, hiking, swimming, playing Bridge and traveling adventures within and outside the U.S. He especially enjoyed visiting the U.S. national parks. His goal was to get his passport stamped at all 60 national parks (he got to 46) and was planning his next adventure to WrangellSt. Elias National Park in Alaska. Gary also spoke fluent Italian, loved Biba Ristorante Italiano in Sacramento, California, and enjoyed music, including attending operas and classic rock concerts, most recently the Eagles concert in Seattle, Washington in 2017. It was always important to Gary to find a church home wherever he lived and he found this in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Chico, California. The immediate family will be holding a private burial at Chico Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church Memorial Fund in his name. His family wishes to thank the caring staff at Enloe Hospital and Hospice as well as all of his colleagues, friends and members of the community that have shown support. Seeing how many lives he has touched in this community as a physician has been one of the greatest gifts we could ever receive. Arrangements are being made by Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
