Nationals’ Strasburg heading to DL with inflamed shoulder
Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg will go on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, manager Dave Martinez said.
Martinez said there was no timetable for Strasburg’s return. The right-hander left his start Friday against San Francisco after two innings and underwent an MRI examination Saturday. The three-time AllStar is 6-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 13 starts this year. It is Strasburg’s sixth DL stint in the past four seasons.
In other Nationals news, outfielder Adam Eaton (left ankle bone bruise) was activated from the DL after missing 52 games, righthanded reliever Wander Suero was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse, and outfielder Rafael Bautista was released.
■ Yankees: Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (strained hamstrings), who was hurt running the bases Friday, was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and infielder Ronald Torreyes was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/WilkesBarre.
■ Rockies: Right fielder Carlos Gonzalez (back spasms) was scratched from Colorado’s lineup, left-handed reliever Harrison Musgrave was placed on bereavement leave, and left-hander Sam Howard was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
■ Pirates: Catcher Francisco Cervelli left Pittsburgh’s 2-0 loss at Chicago after a foul ball struck him on the left side of his jaw. Also, right-hander Ivan Nova (right ring finger sprain) will be activated from the disabled list to start Sunday.
■ Athletics: Trevor Cahill (sore Achilles) was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday, fellow right-hander Chris Bassitt was recalled from Nashville, and outfielder Nick Martini was optioned to the Triple-A club.
■ White Sox: Left-hander Carlos Rodon was activated from the disabled list eight months after left shoulder surgery, and righthanded reliever Chris Beck was designated for assignment.
■ Orioles: Right-handed reliever Darren O’Day (hyperextended right elbow) was activated from the disabled list, and lefthanded reliever Tanner Scott was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
■ Dodgers: Right-handed reliever Daniel Corcino’s contract was purchased from Oklahoma City, and ambidextrous reliever Pat Venditte was optioned to the Triple-A club.
■ Phillies: Left fielder Rhys Hoskins (fractured jaw) was activated from the disabled list, and outfielder Dylan Cozens (left quadriceps strain) was put on the 10-day DL.
■ Blue Jays: Preston Guilmet was claimed off waivers from St. Louis, and fellow righthanded reliever Deck McGuire was designated for assignment.
■ Braves: Right-hander Mike Soroka (right shoulder strain) will be activated from the disabled list to start Wednesday, manager Brian Snitker said.
■ Twins: Outfielder Jake Cave was recalled from Rochester, and right-handed reliever Tyler Duffey was optioned to the Triple-A club. Review-Journal wire services
