AGNES SEVERANCE

Agnes Theresa Severance, a longtime Las Vegas resident, passed away September 1, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. She was born October 2, 1927, in New York City, to Peter Vincent and Mary Theresa McQuillan. After graduating from Cathedral Girls Catholic High School in 1945, she began a career at AT&T (Ma Bell), July 23, 1945, starting as a page and eventually becoming an assistant engineer. She met her future husband, Richard, a sailor in the U. S. Navy; they married May 8, 1954. After a number of duty stations, they settled in Las Vegas in 1962, where they raised their four children. Agnes was a wonderful and loving mother who was very involved in her children’s activities. She was an active member of the PTA at J.M. Ullom and a gymnastic judge. She transported not only her children, but also neighbor kids to catechism, gymnastic events, baseball, football, wrestling practices and BMX races. In 1988, she graduated from Clark County Community College with an Associate Degree in General Studies with the Highest Honors. Agnes was a devout Catholic who loved the traditional Latin Mass and prayed the rosary daily. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard; brother, Bernard (passed at age 7); and her parents. She is survived by her brother, Retired Judge Peter James McQuillan; her four children, Mike (spouse Maria), Brian (spouse Jan), Mary and Matt; nine grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Services are set for 2 p. m. Tuesday, September 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 131 N. 9th Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101 (Ogden is cross street). Father Courtney Edward Krier will preside. Please note: The traditional Latin Mass requires a respectful dress code. No jeans for men, women are asked to wear knee-length skirts and a cover for their head (veils and mantillas are available for loan at church). Burial will be the next day at 12 p.m. Wednesday, September 12 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, boulder City, NV 89005.
