Lab technicians drew 480 units of blood from 493 donors Monday in a drive on the anniversary of the Oct. 1 shooting on the Strip.

The blood drive run by Vitalant, a blood collection service, ran for 12 hours Monday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The donation center also had two donor vans parked outside University Medical Center.

Those 480 units will help up to 1,440 patients, according to Jeannine McCoy, regional donor recruitment manager for Vitalant.

“That’s amazing,” she said of the drive. “That makes my day.”

Last year on Oct. 2, the company, formerly known as United Blood Services, collected blood from more than 1,300 people.
