Icy-shooting Arizona State handed upset by Princeton

TEMPE, Ariz. — Richmond Aririguzoh sank two free throws with 24.8 seconds left, and Princeton held on to stun No. 17 Arizona State 67-66 on Saturday, a week after the Sun Devils had beaten then-No. 1 Kansas on the same floor.

The Tigers (7-5) beat a ranked foe for the first time since a victory over No. 25 Harvard in 2012 and beat a top-17 team for the first time since topping UCLA in the 1996 NCAA Tournament. Princeton coach Mitch Henderson was a member of that Tigers team.

In the back-and-forth game Saturday, Arizona State (9-3) missed three potential winning shots in the final seconds. It was a one-possession game over the final 5:07.

Remy Martin had 19 points and Romello White 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Sun Devils, who shot 32 percent while missing 13 of 15 3-point attempts. They never led by more than four points.

Devin Cannady hit five 3s and totaled 21 points to lead Princeton.

At Lawrence, Kan., Udoka Azubuike had 23 points and nine rebounds after missing seven games with an ankle injury for the Jayhawks (11-1), who had 10 players score. John Thompson IV led the Eagles (6-7) with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

At Salt Lake City, Caleb Martin scored a careerhigh 33 points and added seven assists for the Wolf Pack (13-0), who made 12 3-pointers at a 46-percent clip. Sedrick Barenfield scored 33 points for the Utes (6-6), who had 18 turnovers.

■ Western Kentucky 83, No. 15 Wisconsin 76 —

At Bowling Green, Ky., Taveion Hollingswo­rth had 22 points and Dalano Banton eight points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the Hilltopper­s (7-6) in their second win this season over a ranked team. Brad Davison led the Badgers (10-3) with 26 points.

■ No. 16 Kentucky 71, Louisville 58 —

At Louisville, Ky., Tyler Herro scored a career-high 24 points on 10for-13 shooting, making four 3-pointers, for the Wildcats (10-2), who held the Cardinals (9-4) to 36-percent shooting. Christen Cunningham scored 20 points for Louisville.

■ No. 19 Mississipp­i State 103, Brigham Young 81 —

At Starkville, Miss., Aric Holman scored a career-high 28 points and Quinndary Weatherspo­on 27 for the Bulldogs (12-1), who won their ninth straight. Yoeli Childs scored 25 points for the Cougars (8-7), who are 0-3 against ranked teams this season.

■ No. 24 Iowa State 72, Bryant 67—

At Iowa City, Iowa, Tyler Cook had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawkeyes (11-2), who swept their nonconfere­nce foes for the first time since 1986-87. Anthony Grant scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half for the Bulldogs (3-8), who hit 10 3-pointers.
