PATRICIA WESTMORELAND

Beloved wife and mother, Patricia “Trish” Tallman Palmore Westmoreland, 72, died January 18, 2019 in Fort Worth, TX, following her courageous battle with cancer. Trish recently moved to Fort Worth from Henderson, where she and Lyn resided for nearly 28 years. The younger of two children, Trish was born in Glasgow, KY, to Reginald Ellsworth Palmore, Jr. and Margaret Tallman. Trish grew up on Tall Trees Farm near Horse Cave, KY. She spent many happy days of her childhood summers in Coral Gables, FL, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Maurice Henry Tallman. Trish graduated from Caverna High School in Cave City, KY, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science from Troy State University. Following graduation from college Trish worked as a registered nurse at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Cave City, until her marriage to Lynwood Westmoreland, whom she met while they were students at Vanderbilt University. They were married in Cave City, on September 27, 1968, and immediately began a life journey that would take them to many states and countries around the world as a result of Lyn’s Air Force career. Because of their frequent moves, Trish was extremely versatile in her nursing career. She worked as a medical-surgical nurse at Caverna Memorial Hospital near Horse Cave, and at the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring, TX. She also taught nursing at Laredo College in Laredo, TX, and Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA. She provided nutrition counseling at a weight and health clinic in Fort Walton Beach, FL, and was a school nurse in the Peoria School District near Phoenix and the Clark County School District in Las Vegas. Trish loved traveling and cruising with her friends, she and Lyn made over 65 cruises. She was an adventurous ‘foodie’, and in addition to her love of cooking, would sample and seek unusual and exotic foods at each place she visited. In their travels, Trish visited over 100 countries. Trish enjoyed life and loved to laugh. She was fun-loving and had an easy and infectious laugh and sense of humor. Trish will be remembered as a compassionate and loving mother, wife, and friend. She believed in family and made time to raise her children with love and mentor youngsters as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. She supported the military and their families and was a volunteer at the Las Vegas USO for a number of years. Trish had a positive and joyful impact on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, of over 50 years, Lynwood K. Westmoreland; daughter, Ashley Tallman Westmoreland Johnson (David); son, Robert Marc Westmoreland (Christina Sampanes); granddaughters, Anna Johnson, Lillian Westmoreland, and Avery Westmoreland; and brother, Reginald E. Palmore III. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Trish will be cremated with cremains placed in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Sat., Feb. 16, at the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 W 5th St., Fort Worth, TX 76102.
