Buckeyes awaken in second half, throttle Badgers, win Big Ten

INDIANAPOL­IS — Justin Fields and J.K. Dobbins spent the first half scratching their heads.

Then, Ohio State’s dynamic duo — and teammates — reverted to their previously impressive form.

Fields threw three touchdown passes in the second half, Dobbins ran for 172 yards and a score, and No. 2 Ohio State sealed its first playoff

Trevor Lawrence threw for 302 yards and four TDs, three to Tee Higgins, for the Tigers (13-0), who buried the Cavaliers (9-4) for their 28th straight win.

Higgins had 182 yards receiving, and Travis Etienne ran for 114 yards for Clemson. Quarterbac­k Bryce Perkins accounted for 324 of Virginia’s 387 yards of offense.

At Arlington, Texas, Rhamondre Stevenson had a 5-yard TD run in overtime for the Sooners (12-1), who held the Bears (11-2) to 105 yards of offense into the fourth quarter and won their fifth straight conference title.

Baylor freshman Jacob Zeno replaced injured starting quarterbac­k Charlie Brewer and completed an 81-yard catch-and-run TD to Trestan Ebner with 9:41 left in regulation and a 78-yard pass to Chris Platt that set up John Mayers’ third field goal that tied it at 23.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC 16 Memphis 29, No. 21 Cincinnati 24 —

At Memphis, Tenn., Antonio Gibson caught a 6-yard TD pass from Brady White with 1:14 left for the Tigers (12-1), who beat the Bearcats (10-3) for the second time in eight days.

Afterward, it was revealed Memphis coach Mike Norvell will be introduced Sunday as Florida State’s coach. The Tigers were in the league title game for the third straight season and won their first title.

MOUNTAIN WEST No. 19 Boise State 31, Hawaii

At Boise, Idaho, Jaylon Henderson threw for 212 yard and two TDs and ran for a score for the Broncos (12-1), who stifled the Rainbow Warriors (9-5) with two defensive stands inside the 5.

Henderson’s two TD passes both were from 36 yards, to Khalil Shakir and John Hightower, and came 53 seconds apart late in the first half. Boise State won its second league title in three years. Hawaii made its first title-game appearance.

SUN BELT No. 20 Appalachia­n State 45, Louisiana-Lafayette 38 —

Boone, N.C., Darrynton Evans scored three TDs for the Mountainee­rs (12-1), who edged the Ragin’ Cajuns (10-3) to repeat as league champions.

Levi Lewis threw for a title game-record 354 yards and four TDs for Lafayette. Zac Thomas threw for 149 yards and two TDs for Appalachia­n State, which has won at least a share of four straight league titles.

MID-AMERICAN Miami (Ohio) 26, Central Michigan 21 —

At Detroit, Sam Sloman kicked four field goals, including a 48-yarder with 4:06 left, for the RedHawks (8-5), who denied the Chippewas (8-5) their first league title in a decade.
