NORTH TEXAS 57, Houston Baptist 31:

Jason Bean threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score in his first start for the Mean Green (1-0), who set a program record with 721 yards of offense. Bailey Zappe was 39 of 62 passing for 480 yards and three TDs for the Huskies (0-1). Jaelon Darden had three TD catches for North Texas, which had 361 yards passing and 360 yards rushing. Five UNT players had at least 41 yards rushing, led by Oscar Adaway’s 118 yards on five carries. He had TD runs of 35 and 47 yards.

■ ARMY 42, Middle Tennessee State 0: Sandon McCoy had first-half TD runs of 1, 2 and 4 yards, twice finishing drives that began after turnovers by the Blue Raiders (0-1). The longest TD for the Black Knights (1-0) was linebacker Jon Rhattigan’s 43-yard intercepti­on return.

Army’s triple-option offense amassed 340 yards rushing at an average of 5.5 per carry in the team’s first shutout win since 2017 and most decisive shutout over an FBS team since 1963.

■ Southern Methodist 31, TEXAS STATE 24: Shane Buechele threw for 367 yards and a TD for the Mustangs (1-0), who overcame two second-half turnovers. T.J. McDaniel ran for 130 yards and a TD, and Ulysses Bentley IV had TD runs of 6 and 12 yards for SMU. Brady McBride threw for 227 yards and two TDs in his first start for the Bobcats (0-1), who had to move two offensive linemen to tight end because of COVID-19 issues.

■ MEMPHIS 37, Arkansas State 24: Brady White was 26 of 36 passing for 274 yards and four TDs for the Tigers (10), finding Sean Dykes 10 times for 137 yards and two scores. Rodrigues Clark ran for 105 yards and a TD on 20 carries for Memphis. Logan Bonner was 14 of 23 passing for 133 yards and a TD with two intercepti­ons for the Red Wolves (0-1).

■ TEXAS-EL PASO 24, Stephen F. Austin 14: Deion Hankins ran for 113 yards and two TDs for the Miners (1-0), who overcame a 14-3 second-quarter deficit. Gavin Hardison threw for 212 yards and a TD and ran for two scores for UTEP. Trae Self threw for 133 yards and a TD for the Lumberjack­s (0-1).

■ MARSHALL 59, Eastern Kentucky 0: Freshman Grant Wells was 16 of 23 passing for 307 yards and four TDs as the Thundering Herd (1-0) amassed 627 yards of offense in their first shutout since 2017. Eight players scored TDs. The Colonels (0-1) trailed 38-0 at halftime.
