Texas makes history by humbling No. 3 Kansas

Win margin ties biggest for Allen Fieldhouse foe

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Texas stumbled into Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday aware of its humbling track record in the arena.

The Longhorns sauntered out having made better history.

After winning once in its previous 17 games in the Phog, the nation’s eighth-ranked team turned a narrow halftime lead into a record-tying rout. Courtney Ramey had 18 points to lead five scorers in double figures as Texas beat the No. 3 Jayhawks 84-59 to match the most lopsided win by an opponent in the building’s 65year history.

Jericho Sims had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Longhorns (8-1, 2-0 Big 12), who never trailed. Jalen Wilson scored 20 points for Kansas (8-2, 1-1), which missed 20 of 23 3-point tries.

■ No. 1 Gonzaga 85, San Francisco 62: At Spokane, Wash., Corey Kispert scored 26 points for the Bulldogs (10-0, 1-0 West Coast), who beat the Dons (7-5, 1-1) for the 20th straight time.

■ No. 2 Baylor 76, Iowa State 65: At Ames, Iowa, Jared Butler had 21 points for the Bears (9-0, 2-0 Big 12), who held off the Cyclones (2-5, 0-3) in their narrowest victory margin this season.

■ Alabama 71, No. 7 Tennessee 63: At Knoxville, Tenn., John Petty had 19 points for the Crimson Tide (7-3, 2-0 Southeaste­rn), who held the Volunteers (7-1, 1-1) to 32-percent shooting.

■ Oklahoma 75, No. 9 West Virginia 71: At Norman, Okla., Umoja Gibson hit eight 3-pointers and totaled 29 points for the Sooners (6-1, 2-1 Big 12). The Mountainee­rs (8-3, 1-2) didn’t lead over the final 3:40.

■ No. 10 Iowa 77, No. 14 Rutgers 75: At Piscataway, N.J., Luka Garza scored 15 of his 25 points in the second half for the Hawkeyes (9-2, 3-1 Big Ten), who made 18 of 23 free throws. The Scarlet Knights (7-2, 3-2) made 4 of 12 free throws.

■ No. 11 Creighton 67, Providence 65: At Providence, R.I., Marcus Zegarowski assisted on Christian Bishop’s go-ahead dunk with 0.8 seconds left for the Bluejays (8-2, 4-1 Big East) and scored 20 points. The Friars (7-4, 3-2) trailed by 13 with seven minutes left.

■ No. 12 Missouri 81, Arkansas 68: At Fayettevil­le, Ark., Jeremiah Tilmon had 25 points for the Tigers (7-1, 1-1 SEC), who held the Razorbacks (9-1, 1-1) to 27-percent shooting.

Texas Tech 77, OT: At Lubbock, Texas, Bryce Williams scored 15 points in his first start for the Cowboys (7-2, 1-2). Mac McClung had 21 points for the Red Raiders (8-3, 1-2).

■ No. 15 Illinois 66, Purdue 58: At Champaign, Ill., Kofi Cockburn had 14 points for the Illini (8-3, 4-1 Big Ten), who held the Boilermake­rs (7-5, 2-3) to 39-percent shooting.

■ No. 17 Michigan State 84, Nebraska 77: At Lincoln, Neb., Aaron Henry scored 27 points for the Spartans (7-3, 1-3 Big Ten), who halted a three-game skid. The Cornhusker­s (4-7, 0-4) have lost 21 straight league games.

■ No. 21 Oregon 73, Stanford 56: At Eugene, Ore., Chris Duarte scored 23 points for the Ducks (8-1, 3-0 Pac-12), who won their eighth straight and halted a fourgame win streak by the Cardinal (5-3, 1-1).

MOUNTAIN WEST

■ Colorado State 70, San Diego State 67: At San Diego, David Roddy and Adam Thistlewoo­d each had 15 points to lead five double-figure scorers for the Rams (6-1, 3-0), who closed on an 11-0 run. The Aztecs (6-2, 0-1), who led 19-0 and 36-10, became the first Mountain West team to blow a 26-point lead.

■ Boise State 87, San Jose

State 86: At San Jose, Calif., Derrick Alson Jr. had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos (8-1, 4-0), who went ahead to stay on Abu Kigab’s jumper with 14 seconds left. Richard Washington scored 26 points for the Spartans (1-6, 0-4).

■ Wyoming 78, Fresno State 74: At Fresno, Calif., Hunter Thompson scored 22 points for the Cowboys (7-1, 1-0), who made 22 of 26 free throws to hold off the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-3).

■ Utah State 72, Air Force 53: At Colorado Springs, Colo., Neemias Queta had 15 points for the Aggies (7-3, 4-0), who shot 54.5 percent in their sixth straight win. The Falcons (3-5, 1-3) were outrebound­ed 38-21.

■ UNR 84, New Mexico 74: At Lubbock, Texas, Grant Sherfield scored 28 points for the Wolf Pack (8-3, 3-1), who answered a 10-0 fourth-quarter run by the Lobos (3-4, 0-4).
