Coyotes throttle Sharks

Kessel delivers as Arizona rebounds from opening loss

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Phil Kessel scored two goals to back Antti Raanta, who stopped 31 shots, as the Arizona Coyotes bounced back from an opening loss to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3 on Saturday.

Arizona got off to a slow start before coming to life late in a shootout loss to San Jose on Thursday. The Coyotes pressured the Sharks from the start Saturday, scoring four goals in the opening two periods.

Kessel scored the tying goal in the closing seconds of the opener and had goals in each of the first two periods Saturday. Clayton Keller scored for the second straight game for Arizona.

Wild 4, Kings 3, OT:

At Los Angeles, Marcus Johansson scored with 11 seconds left in overtime after Ryan Suter tied it for Minnesota with two seconds left in regulation, and the Wild overcame a second straight two-goal, third-period deficit to win in OT.

■ Red Wings 4, Hurricanes 2:

At Detroit, Robby Fabbri scored the tiebreakin­g goal with 2:42 left, and Dylan Larkin scored his second third-period goal into an empty net to back Jonathan Bernier, who had 29 saves.

■ Predators 5, Blue Jackets 2:

At Nashville, Tenn., Brad Richardson scored the go-ahead goal with nine minutes left, the second of Nashville’s four third-period goals, and Juuse Saros had 42 saves for the Predators.

■ Canadiens 5, Oilers 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Jeff Petry and Tomas Tatar each scored twice, and Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher each had two assists to back Carey Price, who had 34 saves.

■ Maple Leafs 3, Senators 2: At Ottawa, Ontario, Mitch Marner had a goal and two assists, and Joe Thornton and Auston Matthews each had a goal and an assist for Toronto.

■ Devils 2, Bruins 1, OT: At Newark, N.J., Yegor Sharangovi­ch scored his first NHL goal with 1.7 seconds left in overtime to back Mackenzie Blackwood, who had 27 saves.

■ Rangers 5, Islanders 0: At New York, Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin each scored twice, and Alexandar Georgiev stopped 23 shots in his fifth shutout.
