Jaguars QB Lawrence steady after uneven start

-

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Trevor Lawrence’s professional debut opened with a sack and a fumble, hardly ideal but not too concerning for Jacksonville.

PRESEASON

The draft’s No. 1 pick rebounded, delivering a few impressive throws and somewhat salvaging his first preseason game — a 23-13 loss to Cleveland.

Lawrence started and completed 6 of 9 passes for 71 yards in two series. He failed to lead the Jaguars (0-1) to points. The biggest takeaway was his offensive line, a veteran unit, failed to handle the backups of the Browns (1-0).

■ Chiefs 19, 49ers 16: At Santa Clara, Calif., rookie Shane Buechele scored on a 1-yard keeper with 1:14 left for Kansas City (1-0), which held out one projected starter. Rookie Trey Lance was 5 of 14 passing for 128 yards, with an 80-yard TD throw to Trent Sherfield, for San Francisco (0-1).

■ Bears 20, Dolphins 13: At Chicago, rookie Justin Fields was 14 of 20 passing for 142 yards and a TD and ran for a score to rally Chicago (1-0) from a 13-0 deficit. Miami (0-1) held the Bears without a first down until 27 seconds remained in the first half.

■ Broncos 33, Vikings 6: At Minneapolis, Drew Lock was 5 of 7 passing for 151 yards and two TDs in three posssessions for Denver (1-0). Defensive end Stephen Weatherly was the lone projected starter to play for Minnesota (0-1).

■ Texans 26, Packers 7: At Green Bay, Wis., Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked four field goals for Houston (1-0). Jordan Love was 12 of 17 passing for 122 yards and a TD in his first game for Green Bay (0-1).

■ Cardinals 19, Cowboys 16: At Glendale, Ariz., Matt Prater kicked a tying 48-yard field goal with 1:51 left and a winning 47-yarder on the final play to send Arizona (10) past Dallas (0-2) on Friday.

■ Bengals 19, Buccaneers 14: At Tampa, Fla., Evan McPherson and Austin Seibert each kicked two second-half field goals for Cincinnati (1-0). Tampa Bay (0-1) had 159 yards of offense.

■ Ravens 17, Saints 14: At Baltimore, Tyler Huntley ran for a 7-yard TD with 6:35 left for Baltimore (1-0) in its 18th straight preseason win. New Orleans (0-1) had six turnovers.

■ Jets 12, Giants 7: At East Rutherford, N.J., rookie Zach Wilson was 6 of 9 passing for 63 yards, leading the Jets (1-0) to a field goal against backups for the Giants (0-1).
