EDWIN GRIFFIN HOSKIN

-

Edwin Griffin Hoskin (85) passed away in July of 2022, after a one-month-long battle with lung cancer. He peacefully departed this life in the tranquility of his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Edwin was born in a quaint, family home in Wellsville, Utah, shortly before his twin brother, Darwin. Eventually, he moved out of the home that he shared with his ten siblings and was drafted into the United States Army. After surviving seventeen months in the Republic of Korea, he returned to the United States and met his future wife,

and only sweetheart, Edith, at Utah State University, from where they both graduated. A few years after their marriage in 1966, Edwin and Edith moved to Las Vegas, where they raised four children (three sons and one daughter).

A fifty-year resident of Las Vegas, Edwin loved calling Sin City home. He was a

proud fan of Las Vegas' sport's teams, especially UNLV Men's Basketball (during the Tarkanian years), and the Las Vegas Golden Knights. He also loved to travel,

having visited five continents, and twenty -eight states.

Edwin had a strong work ethic that he developed while growing up on a farm, and he found employment in over thirty occupations (heavy equipment operator, Test Site security, taxi cab driver, casino floor change banker, mail room clerk, etc.) throughout his life. He spent most of his time as a teacher for the Clark County School District, where he helped to educate thousands of students in history, social studies, and special education at Spring Mountain Youth Camp, Chaparral High School, and J.D. Smith Middle School.

After retiring from thirty years of teaching, Edwin could be found working parttime jobs (substitute teacher, grocery store bagger, etc.) for fun, or exercising at the Las Vegas Athletic Club and EOS gyms. He led a physically active and healthy life until one month before his passing, and he never stopped working until the age of eighty.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edith, his only remaining sibling, Charlene Pierce, his four children and their spouses, Joseph (Kathryn), Shawn (Lisa), Marcus (Alejandra), and Holly (Mark Peckham),

eleven grandchildren, four granddogs, and three great-grandchildren.

Edwin believed in the importance of family, hard work, self-reliance, education, and travel. He also said, "If you have

your health, that's all that matters; you can do anything." Indeed, he was a wise man who will be dearly missed.
