AVIATORS TOP FIVE OF THE WEEK

-

1. Rally time is here: With only two wins in their past 12 games through Friday, the Aviators have fallen out of first place in the PCL West. But they will have a chance to make up ground on first-place Reno when they host the rival Aces in a sixgame series starting Tuesday at Las Vegas Ballpark.

2. Las Vegas Aviators West: In the first game after the MLB All-star break, the parent Athletics went with a lineup featuring no fewer than six former Aviators — Skye Bolt (CF), Sean Murphy (C), Seth Brown (1B), Sheldon Neuse (2B), Vimael Machin (3B) and Nick Allen (SS). Murphy hit a three-run homer in Aviators West’s 5-0 victory over Detroit.

3. Breaking Bad in the Duke City: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who played Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on “Breaking Bad,” were scheduled to throw out the first pitches before Saturday night’s Aviators-isotopes game in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the critically acclaimed AMC crime drama was shot on location.

4. Bobblehead Tuesday: Bobbleheads are back at Las Vegas Ballpark — the first 2,000 fans who arrive for Tuesday’s game against Reno celebrating Hispanic and Latino culture will receive a Reyes de Plata bobblehead, courtesy of local labor union 872.

5. Good seats available: The hope is that Bobblehead Tuesday, Thirsty Thursday, Fireworks Friday and a chance of thunderstorms (and slightly cooler weather) on the other days of the week will help the Aviators gain ground in the Triple-a attendance battle. While Las Vegas still leads the PCL with average attendance of 7,046 over 48 dates, the Aviators trail the Nashville Sounds (7,946), Worcester Red Sox (7,398) and Charlotte Knights (7,483) in average number of spectators through Triple-a turnstiles.
