Helen (nee Rothstein) Groner (aka “Nana,” “Mom,” “Auntie,”) 93, of Las Vegas, died peacefully August 2, 2022. Helen was born June 3, 1929, in Chicago, to the late Samuel Rothstein and the late Bertha (nee Rubin) Rothstein. Helen was retired from School District 68 in Skokie, IL where she worked for 28 years. During her tenure she served as the school Health Clerk and in various positions, ending as the Secretary to the Assistant Superinten­dent of the District. She was an active member and volunteer with the Jewish War Veterans Post #64 in Las Vegas and her hobbies included weekly organized Mahjong and Poker games as well as recreation­al play at casino penny slots. She loved traveling to see family and friends, anything involving her two grandsons, and her annual “staycation­s” at the Bellagio with family. Helen is beloved by many and known for her infectious laugh, her quick wit, her fierce determinat­ion and independen­ce, her ever-present smile and her gentle and kind love for her family and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, of 58 years, Samuel Groner. She is survived by sons, Burt Groner of Las Vegas and Sheldon (Beth) Groner of Kilmarnock, VA; grandchild­ren, Alexander Groner of Boston and Brady Groner of Richmond, VA; nieces, Joy Demain and Maat (Marcus) Elman; and nephew, Barry (Betsy) Rothstein. Services will be at 10am Sun. Aug. 7, at Kraft-sussman Funeral Home, Las Vegas. Burial to follow at King David Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Helen’s memory may be made to the Jewish War Veterans Murray L. Rosen Post #64, c/o S. Rose, 2521 Sierra Sage St., Las Vegas, NV 89134.
