Hockey Canada chair out amid sexual assault probe
Michael Brind’amour resigned as chair of Hockey Canada’s board of directors amid scrutiny of the organization for its handling of sexual assault allegations against members of previous men’s junior teams. Brind’amour was elected board chair in 2018. The federal government froze Hockey Canada’s funding after it was revealed the organization had settled a lawsuit with a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted by members of the 2018 men’s junior team. Other allegations surfaced afterward.
■ Soccer: Former Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig agreed to a 3½year deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy with undisclosed terms. The 22-year-old from Spain, a highly touted prospect coming through Barcelona’s La Masia academy, had two goals and three assists in 57 matches with the club.
