Astros’ Alvarez evaluated after leaving with illness

-

Houston left fielder Yordan Alvarez was released from a hospital after becoming ill and exiting in the fifth inning of the Astros’ loss Friday at Atlanta and was held out of the lineup Saturday. All tests came back normal, and he will undergo further evaluation, manager Dusty Baker said, noting Alvarez had a shortness of breath — made worse by smoke in the air after the Braves shot off fireworks. Alvarez, 25, has hit .295 with 31 homers and 77 RBIS this season. He ranks first in the American League in on-base percentage (.400) and second in homers, slugging percentage (.612), OPS (1.012) and runs (76).

■ Twins: Right-hander Tyler Mahle (inflamed right shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list. The 27-year-old, acquired Aug. 2 from Cincinnati, has a 2.51 ERA in three Minnesota starts.
